So I'm going to get a puffer fish...

not how I/many others would have done it.

Honest, I dont see it working, you really really really should just be adding pure ammonia, I don't think a cricket is going to be releasing enough ammoina to keep the cycle going right. Seriously though, a jug of ammonia only costs like 4$ MAX at walmart and its really easier to use because you know how much your putting in there so you know whether or not it cycling right...

I did this for people tying to watch the cycle, haven't shared it yet so here it is for you, step-by-step with daily recording spots. just print it out...

I thought I was halfway through the cycle, past the "dump in ammonia" part. I'm on the part where the ammonia is gone and the nitrites spike, thus the parameters that I have now.

you didn't add the necessary amount of ammonia to begin with...

to be honest, I have been trying to explain this to you, at this point im going to tell you to just do a fish in cycle. Your sale stops tomorrow, so you might as well get what you want. You have to test at least twice daily, doing water changes whenever ammonia or nitrites hit .25 ppm.

Nah, it's okay. The cricket is still in there, and I don't see any ammonia, which I think means the bacteria are REALLY eating the ammonia, but I'm not sure. I just need to wait for the nitrite/nitrate eating bacteria to grow in. But you tell me what I do, I haven't had a fish tank in a while. I already have 2 TINY snails in there so would it be okay to have 2 bumblebee gobies in there? could they handle a small amount of nitrites?

Nitrite: (sigh) STILL .50
I'm still going to get some plants from my pond for decoration and oxygen in some of the corners of the tank. Also I saw the link in the first post on this page, so now I see what everyone is talking about. Sorry for being ablivious to everything. Also this:

To do a fishless cycle, you need to continuously be adding ammonia in some form. To feed the nitrite part of the cycle, the bacteria need to be turning ammonia into nitrite. If you stop adding ammonia, by the time the nitrite>nitrate bacteria are established, chances are the ammonia>nitrite bacteria will have starved to death, and you'll be back to square one. You really need to understand the fundamentals of the fishless cycle before setting off to do it, which I don't think you do.

Dumping all this crap to rot in your tank isn't good enough. By adding enough ammonia to test out at 5, you will be growing enough bacteria to support the bioload of a puffer, which eats a lot & produces a lot of waste.

What happened to buying the pure ammonia like we talked about? stuff rotting in your tank is NOT i repeat NOT good for your tank. Read anywhere, your supposed to REMOVE uneaten food and only feed what your fish can eat, not leave it in there to rot, not even for the cycle.... (some people say it can work for the cycle, i think its gross)

to be honest kid... this is getting really frustrating... we talk about stuff and you go and ignore it, or you go and ask someone else... haven't you noticed we are all telling you the same thing?... stop asking for help and wondering why what your doings not working if your not going to listen and take the advise of the people who are giving it to you. Had you just listened to us to start this could have gone a lot smoother....

We are all willing to help, but its not fair to those of us who want to help to ask and not listen...
