So I'm going to get a puffer fish...

There are some hard shelled turban shaped snails but I have softer shelled ones in the pond.

Are those glass shrimps in the tank? I didn't know that they could live in brackish/salt water.

Are you cycling the tank as freshwater or brackish? Is the fish being kept in FW or BW? If BW, what salinity? You need to either plan on getting the tank's salinity to match the fish's existing habitat, or get the tank cycled as FW then convert it to BW, depending on how the fish is being kept presently.

The wank is cycling low end brackish. I got a water test kit today, and the shrimp are still fine. One of them molted.
The water properties are:
pH: 8.2
Ammonia: 0.50/1.0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0 or 5.0
Now tell me, did the salt raise up any of these levels? And how do I lower the ammonia?

you are cycling the tank...ammonia is part of the process. Levels can be reduced with water changes.
