I'd like to suggest that you coat the pvc completely with the glue. Then while the glue is still soft enough, but not runny, use found objects to temporarily press against it to create texture. Then, using your acrylic paints, use a method called "dry brushing" to really bring it to life.
I used to do models (miniatures) and these are just a couple of very easy and cool looking methods of bringing scale and ultra realism to your art.
