Some of my Planted Ripariums

Noooooooo....

I join here in addition to The Planted Tank in order to read more things about fish, and I find you here too! With all of the pictures of your beautiful ripariums conveniently located in one single thread! And especially pictures of a 20g tall tank that just makes me itch to take down my current 20g tall, put that stuff in my 10g, and make the 20g tall into a riparium. I'm sure my habrosus cory cats would love the riparium. I'm sure all my plants and driftwood would fit in a 10g. I'm sure that I should stop thinking about this. But its so tempting...

I keep thinking how awesome it would be to come over and see all these ripariums in person... but then I would totally be sunk and never able to say no to the conversion, so I keep squashing that idea. Maybe someday...

Well just send a note if you ever have any questions. It is easy to get a few riparium plants going and a 20 Tall is a pretty good size, although as you can see in my pictures the plants do get squeezed some in that short 12" depth. How far away are you? I can ship plants easily enough and you would probably get them quick.

Oh no, don't tell me free tours... then I will have to come!! :) Because from the pictures, it definitely looks like it will be worth the trip! (Never mind that its a short trip. Just ignore that part. ;) )

Say, are you sure your 20g tall is a 20g tall? Because I was told that is what my tank is, but my tank's dimensions look very different from yours. Mine is 30"l x 10"w x 16"h Maybe mine is an extra tall or something?? (I really don't know)

Mine is the one that Aqueon sells as I think the "20 Extra High", or something like that. It is 24" wide by 16" tall by 12" deep. Like I say I don't much like the short 12" front-to-back depth, but the footprint of this shape is small so it's easy to find room for it and they also sell 'em relatively cheap.

So long as you can keep the plants from growing way forward and shading everything it works well enough.

Actually the "depth" is the dimension from the front pane of glass to the back pane.

For ripariums and any other kind of tank with scaping it is generally best to have more depth. Breeder tanks (18" deep) are especially good for ripariums and other kinds of planted tanks.

Like I say, the 20 Extra Tall does work well enough--you just have to select plants that won't grow forward so much.
