Southeastern Asian River Tank

What kind of Southeastern Asian River plants would you recomend?

I dunno. I would have to do some research if I was going to have this tank. I grow mostly Amazonian fish and right now am using any plant that will do well in my tanks. At some point I'm going to go all Amazon with the plants too, when I can afford to be choosey.

Yes, smooth rocks make sense and are natural to this tank but rough rocks help with bacteria colonies and holding bits of food for fish and your shrimp to pick at. I'd at least keep one rough rock if it was my tank.

Hmmm got lots of things to think about now. Gotta look up paradise fish. So the rough rock will be colonized more quickly because of the more surface area right?

Look in the home decor section at Wal-mart or a similar store, near the fake flowers and vases. I found bags of smooth river rocks there for a decent price. I have been using them in all of my tanks with no issues for over a year. I just rinse them off with hot water and place them in. They are in assorted bags but maybe you can find some colors you like.

Cool tank! How about some loaches? (yes, I love loaches!) Sewellia lineolta maybe or sidthimunki come to mind. Love the goby! & the shrimp looks great too!

I have river rocks from the great lakes but are you near the ocean? Lots of rock hunting possibilities if you are...It adds a fun dimension to a day at the beach. Also check landscape places, Home Depot-like etc.

Can't go wrong with java fern on wood or a clump of crypts near some rocks in an Asian themed river if you want more plants.

I think that's a pretty common way to grow moss. You might be able to just wrap the moss around the wood ... or, if the current is too strong for that, you could tie the moss in place with black cotton thread. The thread won't be noticeable and should disintegrate over time, I believe.

I just wrapped mine around it, although I have a normal flow tank. You could put some pebbles on top of the java, remove in a week or two.
