Spring has arrived!

Thanks for the compliments everyone. :) One of my three females was also stirring yesterday but she hasn't dug out completely.

We had one when I was like 4 or 5 and living in NY. One year he never came out, don't know if it got to cold that year or what but years later when we turned the area into a garden we found its shell.

That can happen if they're sick or unhealthy going into hibernation. Sometimes other things can happen like an animal can dig them up while they're hibernating and kill/injure them. Sometimes they wake up during a warm day and then freeze to death during a cold snap. I must say I'm always worried about them but breath a sigh of relief when they all wake up safe and sound.

have thy bred?

Yes they bred in the fall and I should be getting a few clutches of eggs this spring. I've got my fingers crossed.

He looks kinda cranky, lol. Great shots!

Looks worse than me when i first get up in the morning:grinyes:

Great shots. It'll be interesting to see how soon the others wake up, then we can have more photos!

Just gave the male a bath. I really wanted to get all the mud off his head and skin. The shell still needs a little work.

Nice turtle. I have two red earred silders

The rest of my box turtles (the three females) are now awake. I'm glad to see that everybody made it through the winter. As you can see from the pics, they're still kind of groggy and don't really like being disturbed.
