I bought a new 29 gallon (30 inch x 12 inch x 18 inch). Right now I have a 15 gallon which I plan on transfering the fish, gravel, decor to the larger one once the water is excellent, right temps etc. Anyways the heavy desk I have my 15 gallon on likely will not hold the 29 gallon. I phoned several pet stores and the cheapest stand I found is for $80.00 Canadian $. One of those black wood type (not real wood) stands. The rest including metal, fake wood and real wood range from $140.00 to $250.00. So is $80.00 not bad for a stand? I checked craigslist, kijjji and online classifieds for my city and found nothing. A friend of mine said to look for a heavy duty table or desk but I'm leery of whether it will hold this new tank.

My 29 gallon is supported by a very sturdy table bought in the "As Is" from Ikea for about $100.

cinder blocks...easiest way to go for a tight budget!

Thanks for the tips! We don't have Petsmart or Ikea in the Province I live in. Petco isn't in Canada either. I could check thrift stores for a heavy duty table or maybe I will find a stand. If not I will have to build one out of 2 x 4's and cinder blocks. Thanks!

.. I checked the link above for Petco. They do ship to Canada but.. the price of the stand is $35.99 US $. Shipping is $125.85 plus $47.26 for duty and taxes. It equals to $209.10 US dollars or $230.78 Canadian $. Yikes!

Go to walmart. 29 gallon stand made from 3/4" particle board (Very strong) finished in black for $70. I bought a 20 gallon stand from there, same model as the 29 just smaller for $25. It;s not a basic stand you would expect at this price, it has shelves and doors. It actually looks really good and not cheap at all.

Thanks! A friend of mine was at Walmart and I asked her to check the dimensions. The stand is 29 1/2 inches lengthwise but my aquarium is 30 inches lengthwise. The guy in the dept said a half inch hanging over wouldn't matter since the weight of the tank should distribute once filled with water. Do you think this is safe or keep looking?
