I did go to Home depot yesterday morning to check on some ideas. There were no small metal pieces, just sheets which would have cost $10 each and have been sticking out. Nobody knew how much furniture coasters could hold. Finally I was told the peices of wood would be the best idea and I was shown big boards of wood. I was told my carpet scraps would not be enough to hold the weight. Thinking that carpet store throws wood scraps out all the time I decided to check there again. So I did and the dumpster got emptied already.

Then I had work to do which was badly delayed by rain. At 1AM, I was still thinking about how I could make this work, I went to check the carpet store dumpster again for wood scraps and then decided to crash into bed. It's now pouring rain , a thunder storm again and I don't know where I'm going to get wood scraps easily on such short notice.

Plus I said I would be riding up to Albany with my parents and stopping to shop for a new beach towel today. Would have left already, but I can't reach them.
So that leavers the fish in holding tanks day another day and I can't get other stuff done around here with storage bins and tanks scattered around.

I would really like to clear out my closet and possibly sort through some stuff to rid of at an upcoming tag sale. Having tanks scattered on the bedroom and batroom floor isn't making this easy.

Sooooo...bottom line, I hal setup the tanks and put the fish back in. So enough water to keep 'em going while I search for scrap wood. Sound like a good plan?. I know it's a matter of time before scrap wood turns up and then hopefully if the tanks are not full and easily lowered, I can slip the pieces of wood underneth...I just need this project wrapped up ASAP.

Sounds like you are spending more money on gas running around hunting for freebies when you could have bought what you needed and saved the gas.

Whats the problem you are trying to solve?

Ah thanks. I would guess that furniture coasters or a doubled layer of carpet scraps would have worked fine. If nothing else, most Home Depots sell cull lumber (scraps that people leave behind when they get pieces cut to size) for a buck or so. Have them take one and chop it into 4 pieces for you and you're set for under $2 i bet. Heck you could probably use the tops of some metal cans. Or, buy a few 1.5" fender washers for a quarter apeice (also at HD). A plethora of solutions.

I'm not sure if it will work, but what about metal roof shingles? I used them for a top of a cabinet and they seemed pretty study. They could probably be stack at 2 under each foot. They are about 1.00 each or so.

RM :)

If you are going to go with wood get a hard wood like oak not pine not plywood either as they will compress.

Your best bet is to go to a real lumber yard and ask for 1 x 4 oak they should have it.
