Starting ,new SW tank yippie

oh yes , we have baught everything just for the tank and have it all in a bucket ,and is to just use water on outside and nothing but the sponge on the inside .
But good idea i will remind her daily untill she gets it lol !

Well, you have me there.. just one of my projectors cost me $10,000. My 60" TV was $4500.. 12 computers in the house.. ya.. electronics is more expensive I guess. I just never tallied my electronics costs like I do my aquarium. Plus I make a lot of $ doing side work on computers/electronics so I usually think that money goes to help pay for the electronics..

Now that I am probably going to setup a frag tank and my LFS love to buy good frags I may be able to offset some of my aquarium costs.

see lol

hey grins ...........i think you are right on that call "coral skeleton "
i looked that up and it looks to be it .
So it is dead coral skeleton .which is probably from shippinng and not disease ?
i do see some of the same but a light purple color , something different ?
assuming any coral on that rock is dead if not will die off anyway

hubby also works on electronics too , he likes to build circut boards , all chineese to me ,like his thechno lol

HAHAHA maybe i could trade some of his "junk " for reef stuff lol
shhhh dont tell him lol

Don't always assume it is totally dead, not until you get used to knowing how to look for life, In fact my recent blog post has an example at the bottom of a SPS that I thought had died and sure enough it came back. Until you get used to knowing the difference you might want to take photos and post them to get an opinion.

yippie their is hope still :):headbang2:
IF IT doesnt die in cycle i will be so happy , and i hope to get some pics up soon .

What is the differance between sump and canister ?
They do the same job right ?but isnt it easier to use a sump then canister?
If we get the 29gl bio cube ,would it be worth it to run a sump on it ?
How often do u need a new canister or do you just clean it like a skimmer ?
Thanks

What is the differance between sump and canister ?

<<A sump is another aquarium or storage container which increases water volume and provides a place to keep the equiptment. A Cannister is an actual filter unit itself>>

They do the same job right ?but isnt it easier to use a sump then canister?

<<Only when there is a refugium added to the sump does it then technically become a filter. So, in that configuration, yes, a sump/refugium is the same as a filter in a round about way. People still keep a maintenace routine on a sump...But, predominantly, more work is required with a cannister filter>>

If we get the 29gl bio cube ,would it be worth it to run a sump on it ?

<<If the space is available, yes, i think its always worth it>>

How often do u need a new canister or do you just clean it like a skimmer?

<<You dont need to replace the actual device, just the media, replaced over a month period. Skimmers just need the collection emptying down the sink ( i personaly prefer to take skimmate shots ;) )

Thanks

Added some comments above in red, hope this helps...

Can't answer your question about the possible feather duster, but I have 3 cats and two dogs in the same house as my 210, and it is open, except for the eggcrate lids. No problems caused by pet hair that I know of.
I think Grins also has two Golden Retrievers and an open top on her tank too.
Hope this helps!

I also have 2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 kids making a muck. It doesn't seem to affect it. I have noticed that some dog hairs (or cats) gets in from time to time but either the skimmer or the filter get it.
