Starting up Saltwater! Woo!

WELL, I went for a search on the rocky headlands in the rock pools. I found:

A ghost shrimp (the actual shrimp type, not the nipper one)
Lots of sea snails (hopefully not tidal)
A shrimp that looks EXACTLY like a peppermint shrimp but its dark. Anyone have any idea what it is?
A baby rock cod, or may be a baby rock goby.. not sure. Will try raise it :P
Lots of macro algea to grow (including sea cabage)

Thats about it.

Going home tomorrow :) YAY

Not sure about the dark color on the shrimp but maybe a camel shrimp? Does it have a hump on its back? If it's a camel, don't put it in your tank.

it doesn't seem to have a hump.. i'll try get some pics of it.

Well it was a camel shrimp :/ awell. I didn't put it in. I did put what I think is a ghost shrimp in, looks like it's doing well :)

Thanks greech.

It's good to see almost 2000 views, i'm glad people can learn from my journal :)

pH: 8.2
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 20ppm
Calcium: 320ppm...
KH: 10 degrees
Phosphate: 0 to .25, hard to tell.

I have 3 - 4 different algaes :/ red slime algae (cyano?), diatoms, green algea that's hard to wipe off, some black (cyano again?), and maybe hair algea or something equivalent :(

Did a twenty percent WC today. And got off as much as I could. Let's hope this settles down as the tank establishes...

It will but you may need more flow.

3000lph and AC70? Really? Lol. Maybe I can direct it to be more efficient?

Yes, should have mentioned redirecting. With one PH your flow is fairly laminar. I know the hob is helping but having another PH facing the other somewhat will create a more chaotic flow. You may not need more and this is just the initial cycle/bloom and things will get better. However, if the spots you see now continue or get worse, those are likely dead spots and you should try and get better flow to those areas.

Ahh I understand. One thing I don't get is that algea grows well right in the full blast of the PH... Like right where it is hitting/ swiping the wall...

Thanks for all your help :)

Alright, clicking is really annoying me.. Especially while I try to sleep. Im confused though. Its pretty loud but in like 3 bursts sometimes?? I heard pistols only do single hits. And another thing, the ghost shrimp (?) is still alive which makes me think there isnt a mantis otherwise he would have killed it already... the hunt continues but im still too scared to put fish in... it would be a very expensive meal.. LOL
