I've asked this so many times in the general freshwater thread but im still confused:huh: .

So heres the deal, im getting a new 55g (long) and want to stock it with some nice community fish and plants (heavily planted) but dont know what im going to do. any suggestions??

I have Diamond Tetra's, Long finned Rosy Barbs (my two favorites), along with Spotted Cory's, Dalmation Mollies and Female Bettas in my 55 gallon. Very colorful and active tank. Good luck.

I have 4 assorted rainbowfish, 3 zebra danios, 1 tiger pleco and 2 large silver dollars. (i don't recommend the silver dollars as they get big. mine are 6 years old though - they are leftovers from another tank I used to have! I just have no where else to put them.)

i just love rainbowfish, they are active and colorful.

Here's a pic of my 55 tank:

perhaps search the net and look at different fish pics and go from there. thats what i did and do some extra research on the particular type of fish. do you want peaceful, semi-aggressive? for a planted tank, my favorites are tetras, rainbows and cories. smaller south american cichlids like rams and kribs are cool too. silver dollars do get too big and they eat plants as well. do the same kind of search on plants too. i tend to stick with the smaller fish in a planted cuz they won't tear up the plants.

some links of pics and some info on fish and plants to give you a start.

I did basically the same thing as tepelus. As you are looking around, I am sure you will find one or two fish that you just have to have in your tank. For me and my family, specifically my wife, it was Cherry Barbs. I built the rest of my original list around them and then posted my list here for the folks to help me tweek.

I also used this page: http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/fwcompatibility_chart.cfm to aid in my original selections.

Hope it helps!
