Stocking a 150 gallon

Not all plecos are compatible with discus. I've heard some plecos will attach on the side of discus and suck on their slime. Young discus(2-4") should be kept in a barebottom tank and fed several times a day and a water change of 20-50% daily is ideal. If you want to add substrate go with adult size discus if you have the money for it. Carbon should not be added to the filter if you have discus, rumor has it that carbon may cause hole in the head disease. if what he says is true, what fish do you recommend?

discus are out, the temperature needs to be about 80-85 degrees which is too much for other fish.

what fish go well with gourami's?

How about a few blood parrot cichlids and a large school of tetras? And then some cories and otocinclus for the bottom of the tank.

hows this stock:

12 mixed gourami's
20-30 neon tetra's
3-4 silver dollars
4 cory's

any others?
maybe a pleco?

OK, if you get the wrong kinds of gouramis (i mean more males then females)
then they will fight.
discus are minimum of 60.00 each! thats alot if you are going to have a school of them...

as for the community tank, that is what i have had most experiance with,

here are some ideas,

1. (if you want guppies)

20-30 guppys (they will breed eaisly)
12+ tetras (red eye, neons,...)
and a center peice fish, such as a (one) gourami, or another big fish like that...

2. (w/o guppies)
15+ danios (zebra, red, pearl, blue...ect)
15+ neon tetras
2 gouramis
and maybe another school of something...

3. (my favorite, alot of color)
20+ RED danios (a little expensive, but worth it)
20+ neon tetras
30+ either male or female guppies (unless you want babies, you can have both)
and some bottom fish (bumble bee goby, albino cory cats a pleco...)

i hope this helps, it is hard thinking big!:)

its a shame the LFS doesnt sell danios. they sure would bring out the color in her room.

instead of the neons, ill buy guppies.

so the stock will be
12 mixed gourami's
15 guppies
3 silver dollars
couple cory's
3 bristlenose catfish

is this fine?

i wouldnt do that many gouramis, they will fight...
(belive me, i have some)

seriously? what kind of gourami's do you have?

i remeber reading about all gourami's being very peaceful. all but the kissing variety

bah, come now! this is 150 gallons! lets get BIG fish!

i'd do a shoal of 5 silver dollars (awesome fish and very very active!) if you don't mind skipping live plants (they are herbivores.) with about 10 congo tetras instead if you do want plants. a trinidad pleco would be a nice "full size" pleco for that tank, plus a trio of three spot gouramis behaps.
