Stocking a 75 gallon

I would not get the clown loaches either. They will get too big for this aquarium. Instead I would recommend yo-yo loaches. They do not get that big, are very active, will take care of any snail problems, are cool to look at, and will get along with the mickey mouse platies or any other peaceful fish.

I have seen what I think yo-yo loaches are in a picture posted here and they were just as big as the clowns. Could you please post a picture of what they look like to see if that is what I was looking at.

your tank isnt too small for clown loaches, dont worry about that unless they are over 5 inches. If you have smaller clowns a 75 is FINE for a couple years. I have 5 in my 75 with a small school of tetras, they are the greatest fish ever. I would just recommend varying up their diet and changing water in small amounts, twice a week to keep them happy. I'd say if you get them in the 2-4 inch range to start with they will be fine for awhile. Just plan to upgrade in the future if/when (some dont EVER get over 6 inches no matter how well you maintain them) they get huge.

if you get the clowns they like to be in groups of 5 or 6. . . that will affect your stocking a lot over time as they grow.

I agree the tank is not too small to get clown loaches as long as it is understood that they will eventually need a 180 gallon aquarium minimum. If you know you will be unable provide this then do not get any. It is rare that a clown loach would only grow to a max size of 6". Any clown loach this small is usually the result of stunting.
