Stocking advice for a planted 92 corner tank

I would not do tetras in a big tank I had some zebra denios and they kept getting stuck in the overflow and would find them flopping around the filterpad in my sump but if you must gutter guard helps cover the overflow

I have a piece of filter foam sitting at the top of the overflow, mostly preventing fish from getting in. Since I have had this set up, I have pulled 4 neons and still have a cherry red in my sump. I am thinking of putting some lights on the sump and adding some moss to make the sump into a grow out refugium for the shrimp.

So, I am trying to decide if I should remove a piece of wood or two from the left side. One piece is roughly L shaped and quite big in diameter, and the other is a long thin piece that has an interesting antler shape at the end. I am leaning towards pulling the thicker piece and planting some more tall Vals back there. Thoughts?



The 3 pieces used to look like one large piece until I pushed the large piece bag to eliminate some of the void space in the back. Now they look rather disjointed IMO.

I'd leave for now until your plants grow in. That left front crypt mass seems crowded, maybe spread them out?

I like big wood, lol! It doesn't seem too much to me right now.

Personally the wood is my favorite part, at least at this time. I would vote to leave the wood as well.

Not sure what your flow is like in your sump but possibly too much for the shrimp? They aren't the strongest swimmers so lots of flow can be hard on them, stressing them out. And in a sump there may not be any quiet spots for the to rest.

My sump is an 80 gallon frag tank measuring 60" x 24" x 13" (L x W x H) with a mag 5 (500 gph nominal), so I think they are alright. I'll leave the wood for now, but may remove it to add more plants. I think that the big piece is enough to set up the tank well, but I like driftwood too. I may eventually get the plants moved the way I want if I ever get time between work and kids and leaky roofs.

Your sump is almost as big as the display tank lol. You must keep it in the other room? Yes, in that size sump and with that pump I'd agree they would be fine.

Yeah, there is an unfinished storage room behind one of the walls that the tank is on. It puts the sump closer to the utility sink for water changes. Pump is probably undersized, but I have enough flow to make the plants gently move, and it's slow enough that mulm settles in the sump. It'd be super easy to vacuum if the shrimp would stay out of there, lol.

That's nice! I've always wanted a "utility room" for my sumps. I hear your shrimp problems too! I built a mesh strainer for my stand pipe though so no fish or shrimp get past that but they would get into the overflow box constantly! And the Amanos would climb right over the TOP of the box to get back into the aquarium, what if they went over one of the 2 wrong sides and went OUT of the tank. lol I just put up some plastic mesh if front of the overflow teeth and no more problems. Raised my water level a bit which was nice actually cause it ran a smidgen too low and the light would flicker in my eyes.

I have some filter foam up on the overflow lip that keeps most stuff out. Maybe I should make a better one for the Durso too. The sump is under a shelving unit, so I don't have a tone of room to get in there and net shrimp, though I can usually get the wayward neon.
