well i am currently setting up s 42 gallon hex tank, this tank is going to be mainly small tropicals, it is going in my living room and we dont want any large cichlids attacking one another, i am planning on 3 penguin tetras, 6 black neon tetras, 2 bolivian rams, and i am not sure what else, waht other small schooling fish would go well in this tank?

I wouldn't add any more types of schooling fish, especially since it's a hex. Personally I would stick with one type, but if you're set on two then definitely add more penguins. A small shoal of cories would be a good addition.

The fact that it is a tall, not long tank changes your options. Fast moving fish like rainbows are out and I would stick with one kind of tetra. Rummy nose swim in a tight formation and look great doing it. But for a tall tank tiny ones sometimes look better, neons or cardinals. Angel fish are practically made for tall tanks. They need height and swim upwards. now you don't want large fish but a pair of angels would slowly float elegantly through the aquarium and compliment the small fast moving tetras.

yes i was also thinking a school of harlequin rasboras and about 6 panda cories, and the tank just finished cycling yesterday so if all goes well fish in a couple of day. would anyone happen to know how to put 2.5watts per gallon on a tank that size???

I'd look into PC lighting. How wide across is the tank? Big Al's online carries a wide variety of power compact strips you could choose from.

the tank is 20 inches ffrom each side to its opposite side and 25 inches from the hypotanuse of those corners on each 20 inch so it makes a 12 by 20 by 25 inch right triangle. and btw wat is pc lighting?

Power compact lighting. It's a higher output and better quality light than normal output (NO) flourescent lights.
