A pet store near me has been getting in some pretty wild species lately. They currently have in a couple stonefish, which they're housing in freshwater.?. The only information I can find on them is that they are ocean dwelling and are THE MOST POISONOUS fish in the world.?!? I sort of want one because it would blend right in with my substrate, but I don't know if my other fish would be alright with one in there. I'm thinking it's probably the "false" stonefish or devil scorpionfish. Has any one raised these or possibly know more than I & the pet store do about these.

might be a scorpionfish........i seen one at my LFS and thought it was a stone fish and appon asking was informed what it is...

ive never seen a stonefish in freshwater....ive caught a BUNCH when i lived on the MS coast thou.....nasty lil boogers....

i would ask your LFS person about it and see what it is....

They have it labeled as a stonefish. But they never seem to be very informative. This place is a chain and their employees rarely know the difference between a common pleco and a spotted rapheal cat. They're 3" and they have them housed with a couple 5" pike cichlids right now, and they seem to be fine.?. Im reading that they primarily eat live food, if they would accept sinking carnivor pellets, I would probably get one since it's only 14.99 and pretty sweet looking.

hey that looks just like what we used to catch back home!!!!

didnt know they would be a freshwater...........would deff make an interesting piece.....

i would get him and im sure he would eat feeders like comets, rosies, guppies and goldfish....

we used to catch them on minnows......so fish is in their diet....

they could also be sculptins, which is native fish and some are strictly fishwater species. Have to be 100 percent accurate. What chain is trying to sell those as I'm curious about checking those out myself ^_^

They're actually brackish I believe. Goldfish / Comets are also not very good feeders because of a lack of nutritional value. Still don't know if that's the right fish though...

Sad that you can't find a place to spend your money where the employees have sufficient interest in their work to be more knowledgeable. I would be very reluctant to support such a business.
