I had a 10 gallon tank with a few zebra danios in it once ... danios being rather determined egg eaters, I obviously never had any fry show up. I ended up transferring the danios to another tank, and the 10 gallon just ... sat. No power, no heat, nothing. Algae started growing on the sides, and I let it go.
One day, walking past the tank I saw something move. Cool! thought I. Maybe it's a copepod or something.
Nope, it was a zebra danio fry. And I found 8 more. I figure they had been missed by the voracious parents, and I ended up raising them in the algae tank with tiny water changes, and eventually when they got large enough to net, moved them to a larger tank.
