Maybe one of you can:help:me?
I have a 10 gallon brackish water tank w/2 Green Spotted Puffers for about 6 months. I just changed the tank around so it has driftwood and fake plants and now 24hrs later the water is a dark red/brown color. I assume this is from the wood, but is it going to hurt my fish? Is the salt in the brackish water going to continue this forever?

Also does anyone know of any detailed information about these fish? I can't find a link anywhere. :pc:

Are you running carbon? I don't think salt would do that (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) That's normal from driftwood. I'd get a 55gal tank for them. They will get more mean and interolerant of each other. They will also need full marine water.

On the bottom of the page theres a whole bunch of links about puffers.

have you had that piece of driftwood long? that is pretty common with new driftwood, but I have never heard of it happening with older driftwood. You could take the wood out and boil it a few times to get some of the tannins out. But to answer your question, no it is not harmfull to the fish, and it wont last forever. Oh, yeah, your puffers will soon outgrow that tank and possibly kill each other. My friend had one, it killed 10 dwarf puffers, one other puffer (I dont remember the name) and a few more fish out of his aggressive tank. He ended up selling it to the lfs. Hope this info helps.

Thanks,
I know about the size of the tank being small. I wanted a small tank next to my computer so I have something to look at. Right now the puffers (Chub-Chub and Bub) are about 2-3inches and I think they love the tank. I'm not worried about them nipping each other yet but I'm keeping a close eye on them. Thanks for the info on the wood. I'll post some pics as soon as the water clears up.

Are you not concerned about the health of your fish? They may "look" fine and still have a shortened life and stunted growth. The GSP's will probably kill each other fairly soon. If you have them in freshwater, they will die soon.

Weird, I thought we were in the brackish water forums?
Little Puff if my fish start to have problems and I'm not responsible enough to replace the tank or do whatever means necessary to fix the problem I will gladly put one in a paper envelope and mail it to you!

Take a breath and leave it alone.

Little Puff's advice was well founded, and on a "help" forum it is appropriate to offer advice beyond the limits of the original question.

But then, some folks consider fish as disposable and subject to mistreatment at their owner's whim. Those folks do not ever have to expect further response from me once they have identified themselves. Both thread and original poster are now considered closed to me.
