Sunlight’s tank journal

While the Pothos looks nice in your tank... it will be an additional hurdle, that is a method for overstocked/poorly lighted/plant destroying fish tanks. Also in tanks with CO2 you want to avoid floating plants, or at least keep them confined to a particular area. Both defeat the purpose of adding CO2 really...
Good point, I forgot about the co2! Well when I added the water lettuce, it seemed to help in my non-co2 tank, but I later realized that might be because my floating plants were using atmospheric co2 to compete over the cyano.

You can have Cyanobacteria with or without CO2. Floating plants can outcompete Cyanobacteria/algae cause they are close to the light, while taking away light from the Cyanobacteria/algae. Cyanobacteria are not uncommon in new tanks (<9 months) with low flow and/or high phosphate and/or low nitrate levels.

Hello everybody! An update on this tank. (no pictures yet though!)

I have found some really really cool pieces of wood outside that I stripped off the bark and boiled til they sank, gonna let them all soak until my 4 new types of plants I ordered come in! When they (and the KNO3, and possibly some new rocks) get here, I'm doing a complete overhaul on this tank. Taking everything out, scraping even the back wall with a razor blade for algae, scrubbing every single plant/rock, etc, and then coming up with a new scape! Been itching for a change, cause I don't like the current setup as much as I thought. I'll even do a video on it too so everyone can see the entire process. I already got shots of prepping the wood today. I'm excited!!

Cant wait to see! What are your ideas?
it's a secret ? I'm just gonna let everything get here and see what I've got to work with, but I have a pretty good idea of what I want. Trying to decide what kind of rocks I want, though.

Note not all wood is suited to use in aquaria, boiled or not...
Very true! There weren't any coniferous, grape, or softwood trees in the area I found the wood, so it should be good! Not too sure EXACTLY what trees they were, but I'm pretty confident they are aquarium safe :) Thank you for looking out for me though!! And thank you for all of your help regarding my tank's issues!

Courtney, then you are going to carry out a re-escape? I am sure you are very excited about this idea, I hope your cyanobacteria problem ends quickly, in my opinion you are doing a good job.

Thank you!! Yep I'm rescaping as soon as everything comes in! Plants will be here Wednesday, I think :) Super excited, should be fun!

An update! Just ordered the KNO3 today and found some more cool rocks outside. I also put up a mini video of prepping the wood for this tank on my youtube channel, in case anyone's bored during quarantine and wants to check it out!

Loach, will I need any other fertilizers from your experience? Or just the potassium nitrate? :)
