SUNSUN HW-302 Outside Filter setup & test

If your talking about that 'hole' that runs down the side of all of the baskets and the top protector, then yes they are all allined but the intake does not sit over the hole.. because its on the opposite corner if you kniow what I mean. Like its impossible to alline the intake to the line of holes...

Sounds like you're not putting them in the right direction then. Or something is somehow backwards. I have a habit of putting them in wrong then having to take them all out and do it right. Everything should line up.

All my basket piping line up physically with the valve port that is bringing water in from the tank. Only the pump port that carries water back to the tank does not align and has no need to. I think you have things crossed up, you need to "be the basket" and get yourself lined up and connected with the right port.

MAYBE someone should do a video of the filter in the box being unpacked and showing EVERY exact step from box to install on a tank. Might be very helpful so people can see where every piece goes and what goes in each basket putting the top on and priming it and plugging it in the wall.
Just a idea.......

Gunner - have you been using the skimmers on these filters at all? I set them up and have one that does a fabulous job (on the 40 gal breeder), but the other one sucks in all sorts of air. I can't figure out why it is doing that. I ended up taking off the floating part of the skimmer and just left the elbow on there pointed towards the top of the tank. My main reason for this is the same as the hole I drilled in the eheim intake - if the water level drops too far (i.e. if the filter is leaking), it will stop after the water level drops below that point. But I would like to be able to use the skimmer as a skimmer like I do with the other one. Thoughts?

I'm afraid I cant speak intelligibly about skimmers since I have never used one purposefully other the an overflow box skimmer im required to use to have a sump. To be honest I consider all of those small necked down 3/8" outflow Sunsun cheesy parts to be junk and toss them out for use with proper size 1/2" black PVC & elbows lawn sprinkler parts mate up with the 1/2" Sunsun hose. As far as a skimmer attachment If needed I would do some research and either buy a quality skimmer attachment or DIY one from tried and tested plans.

I have struggled getting the skimmers to work correctly my water level is higher then the top of the skimmer cup. I've ditched the spraybay and elbow connections and I too use garden fittings 3/4 on mine.

Oh my!!!!! I'm so stupid. Lol! All fixed now :P

I don't use the skimmer as its intended purpose, only as a safety syphon breaker should the filter spring a leak.

Well IMO a closed, sealed and pressurized filter system like a canister is either going to hold or not hold water evident with testing power on and off. But an open system like a sump tank is a whole other animal just by virtue of the fact that it is open and ready to spill means that at some point it will, and the only filter I have a siphon brake on. But if you can get the Sunsun skimmer/siphon brake it to work without hassles and it make you rest easy, use it. I just dont feel its needed and proverbially toss it over my shoulder into the round-file when unpacking a new Sunsun lol.
