You are correct NYC.. on a 10G a skimmer really isn't needed. Your going to have much bigger things to worry about than the DOCs (disolved organic compounds) in the tank. Just keeping salinity stable is enough of a challenge for me to not want to attempt it.

Frankly, on a 10g tank I'd skip the skimmer and spend the money towards an ATO.

I was also thinking about diy skimmer using a air stone but im not so sure that might be as effective as product kinds

ATO=auto top off

It will drip water into your tank to make up for evaporation loss which can have negative effects, especially in a nano.

What is in the water becomes concentrated. The salt, the ammonia, the nitrates, etc.

When water evaporates specific gravity increases along with concentration of other things. With a nano it is important to ensure that you are maintaining an equalibrium even more so than with a larger tank. If I loose one gallon in my 75 (with a total volume of 106 gallons) it isn't as detrimental as a 10 gallon loosing a half of a gallon.
