Tail Biting Betta (His Own)

When my fish nibble me I freak out. Its ridiculous. Doesnt hurt at all, but ahh! And when they brush up against my hand? Forget about it! Im a bit jumpy by nature.

i was at a LFS and they had a tank with a large fish in it (not sure of species, was probably a very large ciclid, at least 10 inches or something) and i waved my finger near the water. not over it, but in front of it. the fish lunged out, had its mouth on my finger for a split second and fell back into the water. i was surprised no one around me noticed. i myself was surprised by the fish's eye sight and accuracy. i left the store smiling.

oh, that's too bad. I have two golden dojo loaches that like being petted! They're absolutely adorable. Soft as a baby's butt, too :)

my betta LOVES pettings. he also likes to eat out of my hand... ahh..... he's such a good natured fellow. I feel so lucky!

it was a good idea to put the driftwood in there with the live plants, bettas (at least in my experience) love lots of plants in thier tank, the more the better

yep. this is true. my betta loves all the plants in my tank. he's constantly weaving in and out of them all day long.

you are very lucky. he sounds like a sweetheart, letting your other fish eat first.

did you read about that one betta that "raised" some platy fry? He put them in his mouth and moved them over to a safe hiding place. Don't remember what thread that was in...

stories like that just touch my heart. And people say fish are stupid or cold.

edit: got it. it was actually a post at the end of "The Betta Myths" in Articles.

I initially wasn't too thrilled with my betta being aggressive since he was bought for a community tank and the previous bettas I'd kept were all low-key sorts. It is cool having a fish with a different personality though! His bite certainly doesn't hurt, or even pinch, it's just cute (which I think makes him angrier).

He's getting better at the bubble nest building too - had a half inch high one built tonight. I find he's extra cranky with the nest. This is a new behavior he's shown just in the last week. I swear at first he had no idea what he was doing and would eye the bubbles with a sort of "what the heck is that" glare.

That's really cute. I've always had aggressive bettas, so I actually want a nice one!

Anyway, I've started to find his aggression endearing. Like the other night I saw him attack a snail (after carefully hovering over it with a cocked head) and it was the cutest thing! My boyfriend agrees, and he's an avid vegetarian! He figures, if it's in animals' nature to be aggressive and kill anything in his space, so be it.

Maybe if I were the one touching the fish it would be ok, havent tried it yet!But my guys like to sneak up behind my hand when Im working on the tank and scare the bejeesus out of me. Especially the blind cave tetra, hes the WORST - really bumps into me. I think they just like to hear me yelp and jump out of my skin and then hear my hubby laughing at me.
