Tank Dilema - which tank to buy?

I would get the second one. Both tanks have the same footprint so as far as "size" goes they are the same. However, depending on what fish you get, your larger fish will appreciate the "head room" and it also gives you 2 more inches of upper level water for schooling fish. If you really like the black silicone, change it on the tank, before you put anything in it. Just my opinion.

I like to support local business and black silicone.... Knowing it'll last is another great bonus. Stick with the first, especially if you'll void the aqueon warranty with a different stand. You know you dont need it with the local guys :D

I think I am going to flip a coin! LOL

I am so torn, I think that no matter which tank I go with I will be sacrificing something.

I am going to be stocking with large active stuff (tinfoil barbs, red hook SD's, possibly a couple of Balas), so I know the extra volume and room WILL be a benefit..

at this point, my main concern is not so much the silicone (since only a few of my tanks have the black silicone and I am used to the algae by now lol) but the reliability of tanks from Aqueon. I know Aqueon by All-glass has a great rep. But will I get the same longetivity with Aqueon? I never want to have to deal with a leaking tank..

I have stuck with the same brand (locally made) since I started in the hobby..but they don't make a tank with the extra height (in black silicone) without paying a lot more for a custom order.

decisions. decisons....

anyone out there with really old All-glass tanks? LOL

I was at the LFS this morning and was looking at the aqueon waranty. it seem that the warranty is lifetime on all tanks over 65 gallons and the stand does not matter as long as it is 'sturdy and level and designed to support the weight".

I believe its the Oceanic tanks (owned by Aqueon now) that require an Oceanic stand in order to validate the warranty..

throughout this whole decision making process I have been leaning towards the Aqueon tank, because that extra 2 inches in height is really noticable.

I never would have thought it would be until I saw a 29" tank next to a 27 inch tank.

Here is a pic I took last year of the local manufacturer's 27" high black silicone tank sitting next to an Aqueon 210 on the black pine stand (which is also 29 inches high but wider than the 150):

its definitely noticable:

its funny, the internet itself has got me a little more paranoid about stuff like leaks.

on all these message boards, there are quite a few leaky tanks out there...

and I suspect part of the problem might be the fact that with Kijiji and ebay and craig's list etc. a whole lot more people are buying used tanks than ever before. It seems like fewer and fewer people are buying brand new these days..

which means tanks are filled, drained, filled drained..etc. and I think the risk of leaks goes way up when this is happening.

I suspect that could be why it seems that there are threads popping up here and there about people with tank problems.

of course, this is just a theory :)
