Tank Dilema - which tank to buy?

i know this off topic.

12 volt, u have some beautiful fish! i saw your thread over at monsterfishkeepers.com those are some really nice specimens! how often do you do water changes and what sort of filtration do you use on your tanks?

by the way, i would go with the tank made by the local manufacturer only in my view its good to support the local fish industry.
 
thanks! I change one third of the water once per week and my filtration is, believe it or not, all AquaClear filters of various sizes (and a rena XP3 on the 90 as well).

my tanks are all empty now..

In my new house, I will start off with the new 150 and my 65 salt. and go from there.

one thing is for sure, I don't have the room in my new basement for as many tanks I had here at my parents place.

but I can finally get a 6 footer so I am happy still :)
 
actually, I had to sell all my freshwater fish to the LFS as I am moving...

AHHHHHHH! No kidding, well congrats on the move and good luck with the new critters....they were fantastic fish you had.
 
those barbs were absolutely stunning. i dont think ive ever seen healthier looking large specimens like that in home aquaria.
 
thanks for the kind words everyone. I am really looking forward to having a big 150. one more pic for old time's sake before bedtime: :)

the more I think about the stocking that I am planning on having (basically more of what I had in my 90) I pretty much have to go with as much swimming room as possible given my budget - which is the 29 inch tall Aqueon tank.

I think that, although the local manufacturer could certainly build me a 29 inch tall tank with black silicone, the cost of that would probably be approaching the cost of a standard 180 gallon anyway..the cost of which, by the way, is about $350 more expensive new (for tank stand and glass top) than the 150 that i am getting will be. hence, why I am not going down that road.

one day, I hope to jump straight up to a 220 or 265. But for now, I think I will be quite happy with a 150. Its so much bigger than what I am used to :)

I have to admit I left this open-ended for dramatic effect. It was actually the lower frame that broke, and that was because it was awkwardly loaded (by me) into our vehicle. It barely fit and one corner was resting on a (padded) wheel well bulge....and it cracked the corner of the frame.

Just got the replacement frame yesterday ($26) and the replacement went well, once I figured out the trick to getting the bottom frame off.

At least it was only a $26 mistake...and I learned how to replace a frame!
 
Man, those fish were spectacular!!!! Your tank images were always fresh in my mind whenever I heard someone mention those barbs. Thanks for posting more!
 
One thing to point out is that extra depth is it makes cleaning a little more difficult. I have a 90 that is that deep and I was fine as long as it was BB but now that I have added substrate and plants not in pots not so easy.

I have the all glass now Aqueon that is being moved into my basement Sunday:bday: finally :bday:

short arms are the only draw back to tall tanks
