Tank mates for a Mudskipper colony

OMFG! that's one hell of a draft!!!
setup looks amazing, but those rocks are gonna get heavy, i beleive you are going to make them? not use real rocks?

Thanks! :)

I'm planning on going the styrofoam + concrete route. Real rock will be way too heavy! I've been bitten by the DIY bug so I'll be making the tank, filter, lighting etc as well...

WOW! that is a great draft! I cant wait to see the progress on your tank!

I think there are like 3 species of mudksippers. Not of em need brackish h20 but I think 2 of the 3 do. There is a website somewhere that has all about mudskippers but I dont have the url, I should have saved it when i first went there a while back. Not a good idea to mix the newts/frogs with the skippers. ! reason being is cause the skippers will eat them like a sunday home cooked meal. Nice drawing by the way of the layout. You went all out :-).

I was thinking about setting up a brackish tank and or a mudskipper tank, and came up with this list of potential candidates...

knight gobies
bumblebee gobies
Indian Glass Fish
Halfbeaks
Mollies
Guppies

Maybe this will give you some ideas. My top pick was The Glass Fish at the time.

Most African skippers are brackish, very territorial, and get large (6"-12")...you may want to use a wide 90 gallon tank instead.

nah......most of them stay under 6". his 55g tank will be fine.

I've yet to see 1 of the local skippers bigger than 5" in the wild - any larger than that and they're instant predator bird food! lol

I'm planning on building a custom sized tank - just waiting on glass prices and clearance from minister of finances (wife) before I can decide on the final tank size. It will probably be in the region of 90 ~ 120G. Should be more than enough space for 6 of them.

Can't wait to stop drawing pictures and start getting my hands dirty...

I picked up 13 bumblebee gobies at the LFS today - they had catastrophic filter and heater failure (common supply to all tanks) and marked down all their stock by 50% (which is about the expected survival rate). I bought all that were still alive and swimming. They've lost around $10,000 worth of stock already in the last week!

What I saved on the fish I ended up spending on new tanks! lol
