Tank purchase?

the chip would have been no big deal, the crack, would worry me. i would offer 50 bucks... no more... and you can still do a really reasonable plywoood build with the good glass panes!

Really? Aw man, I don't know they are firm on the price and they told me they already have 12 other people wanting to see the tank.

Is the pane of glass that is cracked structural? looks more like a lid or something to hold a heat lamp for the snake they had in it to me.

I'm not familiar with huge tanks. I believe its a center brace to help hold the tank? 100% sure though.

I'd let one of the 12 people in line to see it pay the $100. I just picked up a 120g in very good condition (no chips or cracks and good seals) that came with a stand, sump, and 3 light strips for $175. Better deals can be had than what they're asking for that tank.

Thanks, Im glad I didnt purchase the tank. I hope I find a bigger tank soon. :perv:

wel, if its not to late, do a water test, nd if it holds water get it at reduced cost, and then see what you can do. IMO, itsa good buy. It doesn't look like its got any structural damage, and the chip seems to be on the outside. So long as the seals work, the tank should be fine. I would re-inforce the bottom with some 2by4s (not actual dimensions) so that the glass there doesn't have to much weight on it.

So is the crack on one of the braces or one of the side panes? I would pass if one of the panes is cracked. If is just a top brace and they haven't sold it yet, the price is decent.

From the pic posted, it looks like the top support is not only cracked but broken. IMO that is too much of a risk to use that size of tank for fish again due to the force applied to front and back panels once filled with water.

There are ways to repair it from what I have heard but I have no idea as to the cost or effort involved. Nor do I know about the security of repair.

I think better safe than sorry.

That cross support is easily repairable...I wouldn't worry about the chip..but at best it is worth $50....
