I recently moved my betta from a 1 gal bowl to a 6gal(Eclipse System6) and was wondering what tankmates I can add to keep him company. I know 6 gal is small, so I wouldn't be adding many, just did want to keep him by himself. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I too would go with a snail, just watch Mr. Betta to make sure he doesnt start picking on it, you could do ghost shrimp as well although they may become a snack for the betta, some eat them, some dont ;)

ours does great with a couple of goldfish. And he loves having all the room to swim around in. We just have to watch him closely because sometimes he picks on the goldfish (only has happened twice in four months).

I cant even tell you how many things are wrong with this. First of all they have totally different needs, betta's being tropical and goldfish being coolwater. Not to mention the tank size...6G is not big enough for any goldfish, nor is 10G nor is 15G the minimium for a FANCY is 30G, and a comet or common would need a pond...please do not get any goldfish!!!

There are no guaranteed "good" tankmates for bettas. Some bettas will tolerate other fish in the aquarium, and some get downright vicious with other fish. And that includes snails, too. I honestly think most bettas prefer solitude rather than companionship, but that's just my personal experience with them.

Be VERY careful. Bettas may appear sweet natured by day with other fish but their nasty side may come out at night when you're not around, and you may wake up to an injured fish in the tank. Not to scare you, but just be aware that this can happen. I would have a Plan B (ie. another tank) as a backup if it doesn't work out.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It gives me an idea on what to do. I think I'll try maybe 2 danios or white clouds. We'll see? Thanks again.

what size tank do you have?no matter what size it is though they have VERY different temperature needs, bettas are warmwater and goldfish are coldwater,so either way one of your fish are going to be miserable................

my betta is in a five gallon with some ghost shrimp and a stowaway snail or two.the tank is planted and has some driftwood.
