Tankmates for exodons

Red bellies are illegal here so any other suggestions?

I picked up 12 exodons yesterday. I am thinking about adding a couple pictus cats or maybe a loach or two. Any suggestions of other fish?

I've had great luck with all bottom dwellers, including pictus cats, cory cats, loaches, pleco's, machrobrachium shrimp. Also most mid level fish, like butis butis, nandus nandus, ottocinclus cats, senegal bichir, barbs....just avoid fish that will be very aggresive or to big, like most larger cichlids, oscars, JD's, jags etc. or most african cichlids, I would also (obviously) avoid big cats, like RTC's and other things that would make a meal of them.

I would also avoid piranahs, its said on many sites that when young the piranah may get eaten by the exo's, and when bigger the piranahs will probbably eat the exo's.

In my experience its mainly about the size of the school of exo's, 12 is great. At those numbers they really only pay attention to themselves, when you go too low they pick on each other tooo much and hurt each other...when you go to big they "frenzy" when one goes after something they all do. Also keep them well fed and they have no reason to eat scales, or go after other's. But like I said, I keep mine with 1"-2.5" ottocinclus cats and they never get touched.

I have added 2 pictus cats for a cleanup crew. They kind of freaked out at first and the exodons took a couple nips at them, but since then they have been left alone. They pretty much hide until dark. I have noticed when I wake in the morning they are starting to search the gravel for food. As soon as I hit the lights they scurry into their cave. I feed once daily with a combo of shrimp pellets and flake. I am pretty much still cycling my tank so I keep a close eye on ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Is my tank considered full now? I know the exodons should get between 4-6 inches and the pictus about 4-6 inches as well.

The pictus cats are doing great. They usually clean up leftover food off the bottom.

My tank has 8 exodons and 1 pictus cat. I believe I am going to add a couple convicts. Maybe a birchir.
