Tapping on the glass

i never tap the glass either. usually the fish come up toward the surface and follow me around the second i get close to the tank. And when the lid opens they go nuts and get ready for feeding time.

It's pretty reassuring that your fish are happy and stressfree when your rummies come up and act like african cichlids during feeding time.
 
I don't either, unless I see something that might be dead and I want to see if it moves.
My 11mo. son likes to do an open handed slap on the glass, all the time, the only ones that seem to mind is the BN's and loach.
 
i hate it when people touch my tanks too.. we spent a lot of money making our tanks pretty and you come in and wipe your grimey hands all over it.
 
All my fish watch me when I'm in the room; sometimes they crowd up front for attention (all the cichlids), sometimes they dance for food. I usually feed them at night, so they know when it's coming. They aren't stoopid.
 
My black moor comes to where you tap the glass. I think he likes it. He is a really odd fish though.
 
whenever i walk by my tank or sit beside it on the sofa they all crowd together and watch me. when i open the lid theyre ecstatic with energy and they know im going to feed them. they have the trick of coming up mastered since i dont need to tap on the glass or wait for the to spot the flakes. the only time i tap the glass is to break up a fight.

exactly. when i see someone do that i recall what deniro did with the hammer to the guy's fingers who was caught cheating in the the movie "casino" :angryfire:

i never tap the glass. my cons and con fry know when it's feeding time because they see me approach the tank.
 
I occasionally tap the glass, mostly to get a response from the pleco. He is definatly nocternal... Ocasionally when a barb or neon bugs him, he'll shoot around the tank for a minute, and will occasionally suck on the glass, but since I haven't set up a moonlight yet, he mostly plays dead when I can see in the tank. If I tap the glass he'll move around a bit, and check the spot where I drop his food, then doze off again.
 
I stay away from tapping the glass at all. I dont know if the fish see me coming up to the tank or what, but when I approach the tank they come right up ready to feast! I have a feeling that maybe the movement of the lid sends a small shock wave into the water and they can sense that? Who knows, I just dont have to tap the glass to get them to feed.... they know!
 
to tap the glass would be akin to tapping your friends in the skull every time you wanted to get their attention.

would you like to get tapped in the skull every time someone wanted your attention? :)
