trying to stay away from this thread as much as possible... i am 19, though.
just a little side-comment, but job markets differ in every region. a friend of mine (same age, lives in Ft.Wayne IN) was able to find a job three days after we got home from college. I looked for three weeks and sent out at least 25 applications, but did not even get a call back. i ended up doing other little side-work type things like tutoring and such, but still. part of it is that I am going back to college at the end of the summer, but the biggest thing was that in my area, not many people went away to college. I had a class of 650 kids (580 graduated), and the majority of them did not go away for college. each class in the high school is about the same size. take into account that there are four high schools in my district, and that's alot of kids to employ that will be available all year, as opposed to a few that are only available for three months. to make matters worse, my town is very snobby towards "outsiders" so if you are not a "born-live-die" there or do not know someone that the business knows that is or at least recognizes, you may as well not even waste your time filling out an application.
