teenagers of AC

Ah, nothing like a cool refreshing shower after mowing the lawn. Was really expecting it to be cool outside since it is about to rain, but it is still in the high 80's or low 90's.

I wonder if fish have a way of relaxing.

edit:
relaxation ruined, eyelash just got stuck in my eye. Why do girls like long eyelashes so much? I hate being a guy with long eyelashes, they are painful.

Happy 4th everyone! I hope yours goes a little more smoothly than mine.

My mom went to take a shower and told me to find 3 more places to apply. She took a shower pretty quick and then came into my room and asked what I found. I hadnt found anything because I was reading a really long post on another forum and didnt want to get lost so I decided to finish reading it first. Then she decided to stop the automatic payments I get to my checking account. ($ for doing stuff around the house). She might re start them when I find 3 places and stuff.

BUT we had a plan that I would go to a local small computer store looking for a wireless card for a computer my cousin is bringing down when she moves in on the 8th. And I would look around and possibly ask if they would consider hiring me, or even something like an unpaid internship thing so I can learn more. BUT my mom works every day this week other than today, and the shop isnt open. Somehow that is my fault that she works every day and the one day she doesnt, we cant execute the plan.

There were a few good reasons for that plan.
1.) I would love it compared to working at taco bell or something
2.) it is in the field that I plan to get a career in.
3.) Even if I dont get paid, it is very good work experience.
I could probably name a few more, but those were the best to me.

Oh well, guess I have apply to 3 more places today. I was planning on waiting to see if the computer store plan failed or not. If it failed, I would probably try another one. If that one failed, I would just apply where ever is hiring.

Sorry to rant, I will stop doing that after this post. I just really needed to let that go somehow. Hopefully I can explain that to her (again) and we can come up with 3 places to possibly apply, but wait to see if the computer thing works.

On a lighter note, I have my 29 set up and cycling. I am very thankful that my mom bought a nice stand rather than me building one.

This thread has kind of been dead for a while. I will stop ranting about my life in it.

Oh, another positive to the computer store, either way, my mom has no way for me to get there on a regular basis, so she would let me get a car and my license. :)

My friends parents bought him a car when he was at my other friends cabin. It is a 1999 buick le something. We kind of poked fun at him for having an old person car, but it is really comfortable inside, and the previous owner didnt smoke in it. The best part is it has 60,000 miles on it, so it was barely driven. Our suv has 90,000 on it and we got it new in 2006. I just cant believe how much is parents paid for it for his first car. I think the only thing I really wouldnt like about it if it was my car is the color. it is kind of a nasty brown.

She ought to turn off the internet until you bring home a few paychecks...

Man are you lazy with more excuses about not working than any person I have seen. If you were a mature person you would go out, get a job regardless of distance, regardless of the type and you would actually use the money to help out your mom.

Of course expecting a kid to think and be mature these days is a lost part of society (as it is all about me syndrome). What I don't get is why you think your mother owes you anything? You live in the house and have to be paid to do chores? Unbelievable laziness! Suck it up while you can because once you are out of the house you will enter a mean cold world that is highly competitive.

As a small business owner, there was no way I would extend an intern position to you simply because you have no skills working. As far as your IT skills go, they are probably self-taught and that is the worst employee you can have in this field. As a former instructor at the local Community College, I was often impressed by the amount of determination and drive displayed by my students. These kids didn't talk about what they were going to do, they went out and took what was available and worked their vocation on the side and sometimes for free. Those are the kids that will get the jobs.

I am not angry at you and I realize you only represent a growing trend. I made my kids get a job and pay me "rent" that was affordable to them (not because I needed it which I didn't) but I wanted them to have the experience before they had to do it all on their own.

I found 3 computer shops online, but they didnt have an online application.

My friend applied to 3 places and got hired the next day, my other friends dad is hiring him because he is the manager of the place, and my other friends with jobs put in 2 or 3 applications. I have put in 8 online and have 2 more filled out on my desk ready to go in next time we go to those places. I have 3 more links favorited and ready to fill out after I try the computer shops.

Hopefully monday (my moms next day off) we can go around to the computer shops. But we have a BUNCH of family coming down on sunday.

My cousin is moving in and probably has an interview or two on monday. Maybe I will go with and we can go to the computer shops then.

There are like 10 places I would really like to work around here, but you have to be 18 to work there, or they arent hiring. hhgregg, best buy(not hiring), radioshack, petco, petsmart. There are other places that I would like to work but they are far away and you have to be 18.

If the computer shops dont work I have the 3 online applications and I am looking for more. There is chick-fil-a (however they have it arranged/spelled) opening two stores near us. I will have to get an application there too.

I wouldnt mind getting a job further away, it is my parents that are restricting it to ~10 miles.

Most of the places I have applied have been through online applications.

What is wrong with self taught? I learned a lot of what I know from a teacher at my school. He has been building computers since before I was alive. I have a passion for computers and making them work well. I am not certified by any means, but I would be more than willing to go through the training. I plan on my career being in electronics. Not sure exactly what yet, but something with electronics. I know c++ and some Java, I have a friend that is an insane programmer.

Most of my experience with computers is with older stuff because it is cheap. But that is what people are bringing into these shops. I am looking into shops in an area that is on the older side. Pictures they have are mostly of old stuff. I have built 3 computers from the ground up, and have troubleshooted a lot of computers.

My knowledge may seem limited, but I just started learning this stuff around a year and a half ago. I know more about modern computers than the computer teachers at my school do. I will be talking to them and they dont even know about intels 2011 socket, or that ivy bridge is out. I still have a lot to learn, but I know WAY more than the average person of my age about this stuff.

To you guys I may seem lazy, but most of what I do is at school. I have stayed after school for science olympiad until 12:30 the next day working on a pneumatic robot arm. The only thing that made me go home was the janitors wanted to go home and when they set the alarm, it will go off if anyone leaves the building. When I set my mind to something like computers I am dedicated and with it until the end. I stayed after school for computer club and science olympiad an average of 8-16 hours a week depending on what is going on. When it was close to competitions I would show up on saturdays and work for 8 hours with a 15min break for lunch. In order to get a job, I will probably have to give that up. It isnt like I am not doing anything during the school year. Yes my gpa was lower than I would have liked it. But all of my classes had a reason to them other than they seemed interesting. I took two math classes to get a head of the game, I am taking 3 years of spanish even though most places only require 2 years of a different language. And on top of that I had computer club and science olympiad. I had 4 varsity builds and I had to help newbies with the jv builds as well. I brought 40lbs of tools to use every week.

My dad will be helping me re make my resume and cover letter to base it more around the technology rather than pets and a general job on the sales floor of a normal store. he has hired and fired hundreds of people, hopefully I can impress some people.

I know, I sound defensive now. My attitude probably isnt where it should be. But I just had a long year and I would like to just relax a bit. Summer isnt that relaxing either because my mom plans it full of stuff somehow. Last year we got back at 11pm the night before the first day of school. I would much rather have a job and earn money than go across the country to see the ocean again. The trips to MI and FL I love and are justified by seeing my grandparents in florida and my aunt and uncle that teach on the other side of the world and we only see once a year. But all of the other trips, I would rather stay home and work. If they offered the classes that I would benefit from in summer school, I would have taken them. Such as cad or electronics. I sort of get a lesson in electronics because the teacher for the class is also my coach for scio and the computer club teacher. I can solder better and faster than most of his students.

Im not looking to be the main guy or anything like that. But for the simple jobs like installing ram or a graphics card. Heck, even stocking the shelves if they sell stuff.

have a great 4th everyone!

She ought to turn off the internet until you bring home a few paychecks...

Well, the internet is where I find most of the jobs I have applied for. Plus all of the networking stuff is mine other than the modem we rent from comcast. (may have bought, Idk the specifics) Plus it is all in my room and I am the only admin for it. They wouldnt have a clue how to. Plus then they wouldnt be able to use it. Im not always farting around when I am on my computer. In the morning I watch videos on youtube from people I am subbed to (many being tech videos). At night I might play a game for an hour or so. But most of the time I am either learning more about fish (and probably putting some useless post in the chat room. Sorry) or learning more about the tech of the future. If I happen to think of another place that might be hiring I will look it up and see if they have an online application.

I also look for a car once in a while. $2,000 doesnt get much around here. My parents agreed to match what I have saved in the bank. I have $1000. My parents didnt have the greatest idea of starting it and telling me when I was like 5 that I needed to put money in it to save for a car, but it sort of worked out. I put in about $700 after christmas, my birthday, and other things (kept about $150 for other stuff). We might be getting one around $3-$4 thousand and I would have to set aside some money each paycheck to pay for it by the end of high school (well, I would probably save more and get it paid for faster).

I have 6 games on my computer. Everything else is something useful. To name a few, the arduino programming environment, auto cad 97 (old, but it works), google sketchup, and open office.

I volunteered to make a power point for the elementary school musical thing. Of course I added all sorts of transitions and effects. But the person in charge ended up wanting it as simple as possible. So it ended up each slide had a poster for the song/movie the name in gold text and a red background. I liked the orig one I made more, but oh well.

I know a mod didnt like this on another forum, but my response,

whatever.

You can think whatever you want of me. I know my personality online makes me seem lazy, but if you ask the coaches for scio and teacher that teaches electronics and the computer club, I am anything but lazy when it comes to something I am dedicated to. The judges at the scio competitions always loved our robots. They were hand made, most of the parts made by me. The day I buy a kit for that competition would be the day I died. Most of the time we didnt win, but the winners were schools that bought $500 kits. Our total cost last year was probably around $50, most of that being food to keep me awake and working :). The thing with those kits was that the servos were cheap and the people had no idea how to work on them. They followed the instructions on how to put it together. The reason I have auto cad and google sketchup is because I had to make a manual for ours. My skills arent that great with either of those programs so we normally didnt do so great on the scoring for that. But other people would just scan the manual they used to put it together.

I dont even want to call these things robots because they were operated with a controller just like an rc car. I really want to just slap on an arduino or other micro controller and make it do everything on its own with sensors. But I dont have the money for it, and neither does the school. Plus it wouldnt be allowed in competition, which I think is total bs. It has to be human operated. They should change the name from robot arm to remote control arm.

Other schools have a class for scio where they get an hour or two every day to work on stuff, I had to stay after school and it didnt count as a credit or anything. If I could, I would be at school working on the arm for next year right now. But I cant. The teachers have summer jobs too.

You know what, I am done with this tread and this "conversation". Rb, if you want to, please go back and delete the post about me ranting about not getting a car or not working, or me just ranting in general.

You can post whatever, I will not post in this thread again, it was a mistake to bring it back up.
