Just wanted to let everyone know that I just bought this filter yesterday and I hate it already. Louded thing Ive ever had. I cant believe that they actually sell something this annoying. If the loudness from just the filter hum doesnt kill you, the gurgling of the 'living filter chamber' will drive you insane......

Yeah, I wish I did now. I have 2 aquaclear 300s but I have this old stlye 100 gal. and they wont fit over the rim. I loved my AC300s when they were on the 55 gal.

I don't get it

The three tetratec's I have setup at work are perfectly quiet and that gurgle from the living filter isn't loud at all. The heater works great and they do a VERY good job of filtering mulm.

I personally don't like aquaclears....I had a 500 on my GF's 20 gallon nano reef, and that thing was the biggest pile....it broke its steadying tab for no reason...literally, we went to bed, and in the morning that tab had broke tipping it backwards and spilling water onto the floor, which in turn made me buy a new impeller on a tank that was two weeks old. Then you had to keep the water level so high to keep it from making that trickle noise it wasn't funny. I don't know, to each his own, but I've never really liked aquaclears or fluvals.....

Well, maybe I got a bad one...... Or maybe you should take one from work and let it run in your house at night and see if that living filter gurgle isnt annoying to you then.
But like you said to each his own.

Just thought I'd comment on my two canister filters....
I have a Fluval 404, and a Filstar XP-3.
They are silent.
No problem, no noise... :)

Well, I have a pf300 with heater element I'm trying to sell right now that I got free through a tetra rep.....but I have a 150 setup on a small salt tank right now in my room and I don't even hear that gurgle......I chose the tetratec for the small salt I have because its heater is self contained and it has a wet dry filter inclusive....

Works great and when you have that filter set up properly its quiet....I'd say take that thing back, get a different one....or check the impeller and make sure that impeller protector plastic piece is down there correct cause that can make some rattling noises.....all in all, I'd say a tetratec is a better filter....

I plan on taking it back this weekend and see if the next one is better. I guess I did jump the gun with this being my first and only experience with one. Ill try another and see what happens. Was just venting a little. If the next ones like that Ill get an AC500 since I have 2 of those now and live them.
