I've just set up my Brand New TetraTec EX1200 (I believe they are called Marineland C-xxx in the US).

Problem is, it is leaking from underneath the clips. (the black clip in the front of the following picture - but the one behind)

I've made sure all clips are tightened securely, and I have cleaned the O-Ring like suggested in the manual - but it still leaks. It starts to drip after about 5-10 minutes of use and then the drip increases as time goes on. Very annoying as it is brand new, and from a good brand as well.

Any ideas how to fix this?

There have been a lot of reports of this. Usually its a matter of trying it over and over again until you get the seal to seat just right, as far as I can tell.

Grr...that don't sound good. Will make maintenance HELL.

i agree with sploke on the seal, however try taking it out and turning it over.

What do you mean Dude? Turning it over?

Cheers for the Help.

Huh, weird. I've heard of them leaking, but the user was never specific about what, exactly, was leaking or where it was leaking. I guess I assumed it was where the hoses connected to the canister.

I just got one used about a week ago, and I haven't had any trouble at all with it. Maybe try calling the manufacturer for a replacement. It might just be a faulty unit, happens to all manufacturers sometimes.

Thanks chaps, this is the info, known fault. Although my filter is new, must be slighly older stock for it to have the problem. Will get them to send me a replacement part ASAP:

Tetra have identified a problem with this range of filters. The hose adaptor unit ball valve spindles can leak water, which then fills up the compartments within the top of the filter and then overflows down the sides of the canister. This leads the customer to think that the main canister seal is leaking, when in fact it is most unlikely.

Tetra have modified the adaptor unit and are fitting it to all new production stock

However, in the meantime, if you experiance such a leakage problem with your existing Tetra Tec EX filter, then you are advised to contact Tetra direct on 08700 55 4031 who will be happy to deal with your problem, generally at no cost to you.

Good deal - let us know how the resolution goes.

yeah i got a used one as well and no worries i guess you should have bought a used one mate, hehehe how messed up is that aye.. well i hope marineland helps you out and i hear they are good about that with customer service in all.. take care buddy..

I got the 160 series, love it. When I first got it, it rattled. I've read reports of this, perhaps my ears being sensitive (my ears can pick up stuff others can't), they replaced the impeller to no avail. Thankfully it worked itself out a couple weeks later, now its just a little loud on the hum, but you can't hear it with 2 computers in the room. No leaks, but United Pet Group (marineland division) provide 7 out of 5 stars ( :D ), so don't worry, they will sort it out. I suspect the O-ring, inspect it and look it over really well.
