The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

Just a quick google search...
The number one cause of coralline bleaching... sudden increase in light. Some aquarists also experience this without new lamps or fixtures when they do a water change with the lights on... then all of the corallines left high and dry (with the dropped water level) bleach white right down to the water line within 24 hrs

In my case, just on my spraybar, it was literally 1 minute it was exposed, and to this day I can't get coralline to regrow where it bleached out 6 months ago. No idea why.

Thank you for posting .
We are going to follow when we get our setup this weekend .
We are going to mix the water in buckets first ,how long should we let them sit b4 addingto tank?

If you are setting it up for the first time you can do it right in the tank. it's up to you. You will have to adjust it once it's all in there anyway.

About how much was your sump/r ?

We just bought a 20gal long and I turned it into a sump with some plexy glass. I think all together it was about $60. It was allot better then what it would have cost pre-made.

great little qt you have think we will check out petsmart and get a couple, thanks

Yeah not bad for being in a pinch. She aready has plans for the tank when the QT is over. She wants to make a Zoo tank out of it. We are going to get a bit difrent type of setup for our real QT tank. Plus if these fish have Ick then they are going to be in this tank for maybe 8 weeks. We want to get our first fish that we want to put in the 75 a few weeks before the 75's cycle is up so we don't have to wait to put them in the display tank. At the moment my GF is redoing my aqua scaping. I like it low and stable and she seems to like to live on the edge. She's going high and unstable. I just don't want any, ANY rock slides. I can't have this thing brake and dump 100gal in here.

You know I may have to stop speaking to you Woodright now that I see an APPLE logo on your Dell laptop.. That is just blasphemy.. unless your running OSX on the Dell just to shove it in the Mac peoples faces.. ;) I have the same case for my 160G IPod though that I see to the left of your laptop. Sorry, computer geek in me coming out.

I just thought it was funny because I love my IPod and I love my Dell. Everyone asks me about this.

I would think the reason for the Coraline dye off is that rock holds water for a long time and the Coraline can use the water to stay moist for awhile longer then if on glass or plastic. Under the lights this could happen allot faster.

You are giving me a bunch of information , keep it up .
I shall follow your progress as we do ours .
But we may be postponed a couple of days grrr.. we are getting the hardwood floors refinished and the guy is to start thurs or fri, then wait 2 days .hopefully tomorrow
Better to get it done b4 we fill the tank lol.
We are looking to getting everything together at least .
Would it be ok to mix in buckets and close leave for a couple of days ,i dont see a problem with at least getting the water mixed do you?

No that's a good idea.

I keep sw mixed at all times...I use well water and it has some dissolved gasses in it so I mix it a while beforehand to make sure its all stabilized. I have a 30 gal trash barrel and a small pond pump that I keep full pretty much all the time. After I do my water changes for the week I just fill it back up again, so its good to go the next time I do wcs. Its also nice to know I have it mixed and ready in case I ever needed to do an emergency large water change.

Picture Update:::::

Well I think I lost the aqua scaping game. I think if I had more rock mine would have been cool but she did a good job with the little bit of rock we got. (YOU WIN) :O)

So here are some pictures of what I came up with.

These are some of her aqua scaping. You guys can judge for your selves.

The things you end up doing when you have to wait. LOL. Ya, hers "looks" better, but yours is more structurally sound. I'll take the house that wont fall on my head during the night over the pretty house. :)

BTW.. nice socks... and I still don't even see the boarder done on the puzzle... ;)

He says this and seems to forget that I have a nice 20g "house" that hasn't fallin' in the 14 months that I've had it and the rocks in the tank LOOK like they could fall but there alot stable than they look...it's kinda like a puzzle...
BTW.. nice socks...thanks my mom bought them for me:grinyes:... and I still don't even see the boarder done on the puzzle... ;)...which brings me to my other point...the entire border IS done as well as more than half of the puzzle...in the spirit of the tank being set up I did the fishes first...figured it would give us some kind of fish to look at but then we had the ick prob and now we have fish to look at but that's a story for another time...

But back to the aquascaping thing (which by the way he refuses to sick his hand in the see how stable it is...) It must be a guy thing again...god forbid it actually look good and be stable and since a GIRL did it she possibly couldn't know anything about making something stable...right?!?!:silly::grinyes:
