The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

No there is more than enough there to get you close to that 4 ppm range which is better in the long run because you'll build up more bacteria in the long run. But like I said you don't have to be exact in this instance IMO. If you were buffering 2 part it would be a different story. But your just getting your cycle going and getting it somewhere in the 2 to 4 range is ok.. But with your size tank I suggest getting it to that neighborhood of 4 ppm number just so you have a nice sized active colony of bacteria.

That's why I thought I should add some pure ammonia or another shrimp to get it up to 4ppm.

hope you dont mind if i post here lol
Yes hubby got the silicone to fix the drip and the attachments for the sump pump .
yes i asked all the questions last week about the sump/pump , but i never asked anything about the skimmer.
we will lower the water level after dinner ,take the attachments out of the overflowand reseal and that should do the trick .
thank you so much

Your welcome. I hope to see some great pictures of your tank when you can get them.

I would just let what you have happening happen naturally since you went the shrimp route honestly. No reason to speed it up any you have time and I honestly feel its better to go the slower route and just relax a little. It will all come in time, is all you have to remember.. It will all come in time.

i agree with CL you should just let it happen naturally it would be a shame to see all your hard work go to waste due to getting in a hurry. as a side note i talked to the guy at my lfs about the base rock for .99 a # in mass. he said that http://www.gulf-view.com/ bought them out so they are no longer selling to the public. sorry dude

That's ok we already got some for a fair price but thank you for letting us know what was going on. I don't think we will be getting much more base rock anyway. Maybe a few more peaces because we plan on doing a two peak type setup. What I mean is a pile on each end and some what open in the middle. Kind of a his and hers type thing. We will have to get some more base for the other side and maybe a bit more for the other but not much. We are just using it to get down to the glass like a footing. The rest will be live rock that we will be adding peace by peace as we find stuff we like. I know allot of people buy all there rock at once but I would rather find cool rocks and shapes that you might not find all in one place.

I'm not really trying to speed things up. I just thought that you had to get it up to 4ppm and thought that maybe the 1 shrimp wasn't enough to get it there. I saw a few people that were cycling a 75 used 2 shrimp. I know it will take time and I want to let it do it's thing I'm just so new to all this I have to ask questions to re-affirm what I have read, I guess. I know it is really early in the cycle and just want it to go smooth and right.

Thank you so much for your time, help and understanding.

not only that but who has 6.00- 10.00 a # X say 150 # of money just lying around? "honey do we pay the mortgage or buy live rock?"

Yeah Right! The day we bought the first bunch of base rock and LRR I was like what the &%^$. That's all! On top of that there wasn't any and I mean anything on the LRR other then maybe bacteria.
