The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

I'm not really trying to speed things up. I just thought that you had to get it up to 4ppm and thought that maybe the 1 shrimp wasn't enough to get it there. I saw a few people that were cycling a 75 used 2 shrimp. I know it will take time and I want to let it do it's thing I'm just so new to all this I have to ask questions to re-affirm what I have read, I guess. I know it is really early in the cycle and just want it to go smooth and right.

Thank you so much for your time, help and understanding.

Its not that you can't add two.. Thats not what I'm saying.. but you have a good thing going right now so I live by the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" theory.

I think I will do as you have said and just wait and see what happens. Thanks again!

im hoping someone is here ,
my Question is
we have the skimmer all attached ,ready to fill with water , can i put the skimmer right into the sump ?or do we have to hang it off the sump tank .
Just that we are afraid our great dane may open the cabinet by mistake and then of course eat it .and would make an expensive toy lol
Any thaughts ?

ps .......We fixed the drip ,yippie we have the pump going and everything looks great .
We put in our 22lb of live rock and the sump got higher so we took some water out .
We are still tweaking the salt into the sump, just waiting 30 min to test again .
hydrometer reads 1.017
meg 9.5
90gl
coral skimmer

To tell you the Truth I have no idea what your skimmer is like. I haven't even got mine yet. I have just heard allot about them on here. It doesn't say in the directions? Also if you have doors on your cabinet you can put one of those child proof magnet catches on the doors so you horse can't get to the watering troff. LOL

Ace would you have any ideas about CUC's for our 75? I also wanted to ask u about Conch snails. I would like to get one but I'm not sure if they are reef safe or if our tank is big enough for one.

I had a couple conchs.. they are cool, but very slow cleaners. You need a lot of beach area for them also. As far as I know they are reef safe though.

Hermits are a given. Skunk cleaner shrimp. Cerith, astrea, turbo, and nassarius snails. Tiger-striped Fancy Serpent Sea Star would be cool also.

As for #'s, I would guess these. They don't have to be all at once, but when it's full.
Hermits - 30
Cerith - 10
Astrea - 5
Turbo - 3
Nassarius - 10
Cleaner Shrimp - 2
Serpent star - 1 (very optional, I just think they look cool and are not the "green monster brittle star")

Cool we are gunna get one of those packeg deals off of this site. They don't have the Conch that I'm looking for but it seems like a good deal. My GF has a brittle star. It seem fine in her tank. I think I want a sand sifter though.

I don't know what it is about cleaner shrimp but they are hard to come by at even the LFS in my area. That site doesn't even list them. They are great cleaners and definately recommend you get 1 or 2 at your LFS when the chance arises... after the cycle of course.

I am a fan of the Sally Lightfoot crabs as well. Fast cleaners and act like a spider.

im sick of being wet lol
Will try again tomorrow after dinner .

1.019 hydrometer , so i think we are at an acceptable level for now .
Any ideas why its overflowing ?
