The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

Hey Ace there you are. Am I just freaking out or is this thing moving to fast?

good day all .
Everything sounds great woodright...woohooo
I am so grateful you are posting your progress,it helps us a lot.thanks.

My tank is sooo clear today ,it has confirmened to me that the inside needs more cleaning,if you dont mind im going to get my friend up here to take picks and post them in your thread ,but glass isnt clean enough inside keep that in mind lol
We are going to scramble to find sand and hopefully get it done this weekend.

Whats the best way to clean , just a cloth and water ?
My 6 year old came up with a great idea this morning lol she said "ohohoh we need a glass cleaner mom they have them at the pet store and its a magnet "
AWSOME

blossom you'd probably get better responses if you just start your own thread for pictures. Its just easier to keep on topic that way.

Woodright you have a decent amount of liverock so it sounds fine that things are moving along relatively quickly. There was probably a good colony of bacteria that came in on the liverock so it didn't take a long time for it to build up big enough to handle the ammonia. I'd just keep going the way you are, sounds like you'll be ready to start stocking pretty soon.

Thanks Sploke, I think you are right. I did allot of reading last night and that is what I came up with also but I guess will see. I'm pulling the shrimp out now and I'm going to do some more test to see what is going on now. I'll post them in a bit.

I have taken the shrimp out of the tank. YUCK

Well... at least calcium, salinity, and pH look good :P. Anyway, have you invested in a good alkalinity test kit and a phosphate kit? You'll definitely want to look into those.

No not yet but will be soon.

You really think a phosphate kit is worthwhile?

I've never tested anything but 0 in my tank for phosphates...even when they were clearly present.

I mean, you can test your water before you put it in the tank for phosphates, but at that point, you might be better served just getting a TDS meter.

Well I guess I don't know what other test I should get. If someone that knows more then me, tells me I should get one I guess that means I should get one. All though I will read up on them before I do. I haven't read anything about them yet and am just worried about what I need to get threw the cycle for now.
