The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

*on this note, thinks about tileing the hallway between his fishroom and the drain*

Yeah I know that if we get a shut off for the filter everything will be fine. they are only $15.00 so no big deal.

OK I have to talk this out with you guys. We are haveing a prob with keeping the readings down in our QT tank. Now we know that the tank is to small for the 3 fish we have in it and we don't want to bring any of them back seeing that they are getting along now. we have 2 things we think we might be able to do.

#1 My girl friends fish are coming out of Hipo in our 12 QT tankin a day or so. That tank has good reading but the fish that are coming out of hipo are in there because one of them had ick. That fish died today :O(. But the other fish never showed signs of it. We don't think that the fish that died, died from ick but something else. They have been in there for the time they say to. So like I said they are going back to the tank that they are from in a few days. So we thought we could put 2 of the 3 new fish from the 8gal Bio-Cube in the 12gal QT tank for the rest of there QT. My question is should we do this or not? Do we have to rip down the QT tank and clean it before we put the new ones in? If so I would think that, that would start a new cycle.

#2 This is the last one we want so just keep that in mind. We can just put them in our new 75gal and hope for the best.

#3 We can just keep trying the water changes and see if the readings come down.

#4 We bring all of them back to the LFS.

The readings in the 8gal after another 2.5gal WC tonight are

SG 1.024
Am .75
rites .5
rates 25

what do you guys think we should do?

Personally, I would have stuck all 3 fish in the 75G already. Your dealing with fish that are NOT ones that commonly get ich. Tangs/Angels are the worst for that. I would think your doing more harm that good keeping all 3 fish in such a small aquarium.

If you do use the 12G, yes, empty and clean (rinse, don't use soap) it before reusing it.

yup my perfectly healthy tank yesterday with my angels in it--today one of them has ick..grrrr so much for that.

I think we will just put these in the 75gal. Then Cycle the 12gal for the next fish. I just wanted to do it the right way from the start. I guess we learned our lesson on this one. I just feel so bad for them right now. I also don't want to infect our new baby.

My next question is: When I put phyto feast in the tank the worm sucks it's self into it tube fast and I mean as so as i put it in. Is his normal or does in not like the phyto feast?

Are you just putting the phyto at the top or are you trying to target feed? If your just putting some drops at the top and letting it disperse and it is sucking in, I am betting it is eating. If your trying to target feed, don't. The act of target feeding is enough to scare them into the tube.

No I'm just dripping it into the tank. Before I was trying to target feed it with the Cyclopeze and it never did that. Only if I stock my hand in the tank up stream from the worm would it pull in.
