The begining of a shellie tank...

I would say 6 Meleagris aka stapp's and opt for 4 Julido's have you checked out Julido Transcriptus they are nice as well..

also i about crapped myself when i seen that crack in the glass i thought it was the main tank that cracked at first and then i read on and was like AHHH and those shells will be fine..

Whatever you do, DON'T stock the J. marlieri Gombe in anything smaller than a 4' tank. They're probably the meanest of the Julie tribe in spite of their small size. I tried to grow out groups of 5-6 for breeders, one group in a 55, the other group months later in a 29. In both cases I ended up with 1 that had killed off the rest. Ironically, when they were put together in the 55 they paired up and spawned. Just goes to show you though, the females are just as vicious as the males.
The J. transcriptus are the smallest and least troublesome of the lot.
If I remember correctly, the Goby cichlids mix well with Tropheus because they all have the same general dietary requirements. Mixed with shellies and Julies, they'd likely have too much protein in their diet. You really should look into that though, I'm not certain.
 
I agree with the transcriptus, although mine seemed to not pair up well since one killed the other right after the first spawn. Might be best to get 5-6 to ensure a more compatible pair. It was odd though that the adult tolerated the fry for a lot longer than I expected. I eventually removed them but IMO the smaller the julie the less aggressive...at least that is what I've been told. I believe ornatus are also relatively mild compared to the larger species.

Thanks Myswtsins!! OMG, yeah that was not easy you have no idea how many times I thought about just saying to heck with it...or taking a hammer to it LMAO!!
The seal had actually been there about 2yrs. It's a long story as to why I never finished it...but hey what's important is NOW I'm doing something with the tank. :)

Thank you Pitt! I looked into the transcriptus and LOL they are also known as the "kissi" that I was looking at, so yep I think I like em

OMG, that would of really been a bummer if I had cracked the actual tank!! Although, I really thought about taking a hammer to it a few times LOL!

Ok the Gombe is out! I think maybe you mentioned that before, now that I read it sorry I forgot. Course they were my fav's but I will stay away from them.
GAH!!! NOW I LOVE THE TROPHEUS TOO!!!! So, if I went that route...they would replace the Lampro? Although what I read said they tend to be difficult to keep but they may be worth it I really, liked them!!!

The Ornatus I believe is the Gombe I like also.

G, if you decide to try Tropheus, check out this site: http://www.houstonfishbox.com/vforums/forum.php

It's our local forum in the Houston area and we have dozens of Tropheus keepers and some experts in that area. From my understanding, Trophs are not the easiest species to keep and have some particular requirements concerning size of tank, number of group members, feeding, etc.

Not sure I am going to go that route, after reading more on them...but I really do like em so we will see.
 
Forget about them for that tank, G! Tropheus need at least a 55gal and a group of at least 10-12 of them.
 
The minimum recommended tank size for Tropheus is 75 gallons, and bigger is always better when you're housing a large group of fish. They do best in a species tank if you want to breed/raise them.
