I'm going to be moving my fish from my established 20g into a new 75g. I've been thinking about the best way to do this as the only things I want from the 20g are the fish, the filter and some of the plants.
For the 75g there will be a flourite substrate, 4*65 watt PC, bogwood, rocks and lots of plants. I will be using a new Fluval 304 (or similar) and also the Fluval 204 from my 20g. So this is what I was going to do.....
Set up the 75g with the Fluval 304, add the substrate, plants and decor and then let it run for a week or so to give me time to move things around and let it settle. After I'm satisfied all is well, I'll move the fish, more plants, and filter from the 20g into the 75g. In the 20g I have
6 black skirt tetras
1 clown pleco
2 ottos
3 peppered cories
2 ghost shrimps
5 algae eating shrimps
I'll then add a HOB filter to the 20g and use it as a quarantine for additions to the 75g. I only know I'll be adding more ottos and cories to the new tank and haven't decided on anything else yet.
So does this sound like a safe plan?
