I'm a human.... The word humane comes from that word. Look up the meaning of that, if you don't know it?
Because the natural inclination of the majority of humankind is to treat others, sentient or not, with compassion and mercy, and to abhor the unnecessary inflicting of pain and suffering on another living creature.
I think that saying "this is how it is in nature" is a rationalization to justify a sadistict thirst for blood and suffering.
Our fish in our tanks "'aint nature" friends They live in a glass box, in an environment that is artificial. Their lives aren't natural. Their water is treated and filtered, and their tanks are decorated... or not.
If they enjoy frozen mice, and get as much nutrition in frozen mice, as they do in a pitiful, terrified, creature that has to endure an agonizing death, then why not give them a frozen thawed mouse.
I think it is very sad that there are people that can enjoy watching a terrified creature, swim for its life, wildly desperate as it tries to escape, and then have its belly ripped open and entrails pulled out; suffering searing pain.
Go rent a Quinten Tarentino movie. Sad to say, that's not enough. People want reality. Does the mouse scream or does the water entering it's throat muffle the sound?
Too bad. I'm sure the screams would be much more gratifying.
They don't devastate the environment when the stay in the aquarium - it should be illegal to release a snake head not own one. IMHO
If you are for regulation have owners register and report if they get rid of the fish or the fish dies - the state conservation department could pick up the dead to verify that they were no released and do yearly checks to verify possession.
Volcano's devastate the environment - we should outlaw those too (I know this is not a valid argument but I thought it sounded funny
