The Proper Roles of Logic and Emotion in Guiding Human Actions

And 19 years later, you don't have better things to talk about??? ;)

The more amazing thing is that the average human lifespan only extends another decade or so after the "writing letters to the editor" phase kicks in.

Pure toilet paper material. Too bad it isn't on paper so I could do with it as I feel compelled by logic and reason to do!

Unfortunate for your case that we arent all built of computer parts. Logic is great, but without a combination of logic and emotion we as a human race would fail. You can be the smartest person in the world, but if you dont have any desire, its a complete waste. It wasnt logic that compelled you to write your first post, it was emotion, so your point here is what? Our government is built of the people, for the people and by the people, we have the right to vote and have our voices be heard. So any unfair or"emotional" laws or such are there because we as a whole voted on it and decided it was what we wanted. If all of our laws were based purely on logic, this would be a sad sad place. There would be no recovery programs or such, those are care based programs that require ......guess what......emotion. Welfare? Social security? Hospice? All based off human need as emotion dictates, no logic involved. Should we cut all those programs too? Logic also dictates that once a human reaches a certain age and they become a burden to society they should be cast away.......should we toss emotion to the wind here too?
Perhaps you should re-read the post more carefully. And for your own sake you should refrain from the political references. But I would say that if you think that no logic is involved in those subjects, you really aren't thinking.

I wish that was a subject that I didn't have to talk about anymore!

Then I guess this is all gravy!

Well Jeff if you'd like, and possess the ability I could teach you how to use a printer. It's up to your willingness to learn and the reality of your current situation. I'm sure you know better than I whether you're up to the task. Lmk!

Really Subrosa? Really? Another one? Did you think the mods would let you off because it's a holiday in the US? Anyway, on to your actual post.

I give up... Logic and Emotion are both important, no one disagrees with you there Sub. They just disagree with the principle. For examle, I find your current avatar to be rather inapropriet. Therefore I could ask you to remove it. Not removing it would intrude on my right to happiness, but forcing you to remove it would intrude on YOUR right to happiness. But that's just a bad example. I have nothing against having logical laws, but I do think that emotions are still important when deciding these laws morality. Read "The Unicorporated Man", "The Unicorporated War" and "The Unicorporated Woman" to see how emotions and logic can often clash, and see what too much of either causes.

-Note:I have not read "The Unicorperated Woman" yet.
Well Sivart I'm grateful for your forbearance in not formally complaining about my avatar. Since it was just intended to help celebrate the 4th, I'll be taking it down and replacing it with my regular one, which in a happy coincidence means "to forbear"! So I'll have repaid you in exactly the same coin! Wait til you see my Christmas avatar, if I haven't been banned by then! As far as this post it doesn't violate the UA (unlike at least one of the replies!), and so far has drawn no negative comment from the powers that be. Perhaps something for you to consider? From a logical viewpoint of course!

You know what gets my goat? It's against the law to travel in a car without wearing a seatbelt but motorcycles are perfectly legal. Surely, riding on a motorcycle is more dangerous than riding in a car, with or without seat belts. Not that I mind wearing a seat belt, nor do I want to outlaw motorcycles, but how is that logical?

So true...and school buses don't have seatbelts...most are just hopelessly outdated clunkers anyhow. Depressing, really - but I guess if we don't love it we should leave it! ;)
