The useless junk they try to sell you

Useless stuff? Cycle.......I bought a bottle several weeks ago. "it will cycle your 10 gallon in 2 days or less!". There it sits unopened, and my lil 10 gallon cycled, naturally, on its own, thanks........

David, I have to disagree.......I got a pretty lil castle/cavern/fortress made by Blue Ribbon Pet Products, and my fish have interacted with it since I first put it in the tank 2 months ago. My l083 pleco Winky has claimed the bottom half, and my male betta Rudy enjoys his resting spots in the upper realms of the castle. I figure if I can't live in a castle, why not my fish?~

Wow...this is an excellent thread for newbies like me. I don't dare mention which ones I have spent money on. :) Keep 'em coming!

Chia, I know yer pain, as a fellow newbie......seems there are only 2 kinda folks in the fish/aquaria sales biz: those who know their stuff and want to help out us newbies, and those who see us coming and try to take us for every dime we got!

Cymrufem (you of Welsh extraction?) - it's not that the fish don't interact with things like castles, just that they look wrong in what many aquarists feel should be a natural looking environment.

Nice list, Khom.:D I still remember the iPond.:perv: I don't think they sell those anymore because of the outrage expressed last time it hit the shelves. Hmmm...

that is the coolest thing i have EVER seen i am getting rid of EVERYTHING i have and getting me one of them today i don't care how much they cost :)

are they big enough for guppie fry even???

wonder how long a water change would take in one of those?

can you get dechlorinator in 1/4 drops?

(btw i am being sarcastic)

I saw a heap of them only a few months ago. I was making complaints to the management of the local Walmart every time I saw a Betta in a cup. That was about once a week. I did manage to get the Bettas into community tanks a couple of times. Then the stupid Ipond things appeared - on special for $5.00 each. :headshake2: :wall:

I like my airline holder.. it's great for DIY CO2 :(

IMO junk: most of what is sold in the chemical aisle of petco..

fish bowls

Karl , yes I am of Welsh heritage, good eyes!
I understand what you are saying with the unnatural looks of many ornaments.......I just bought a much larger tank. I plan to decorate this in a more naturalistic way, focussing on driftwood and plants. But since Winky is so attached to "his" castle, it will go into the new tank until he outgrows it. Shouldn't be long, as the boy is growing like mad crazy!

Carla, don't even get me started on Wally World and their fish.........saddest bunch of tanks I have ever seen! I would never put a betta in less than a 5 gallon, filtered and heated. Only way to give them a good home and to see them swim, which they surely cannot in a stupid bowl/vase!
