i have 70w MH in a 12G.. but I basically got this frag and a small zoa frag so I just wanted to put these out of the way, since I am not sure where I am headed with this tank yet and don't want to use up all of my available space..

you actually have mor watts per gallon than i do (5.8 vs 5.3) plus you have a metal halide, ssooooooo.
those will be perfectly fine homeslice.
you could keep just about anything short of clams, anemones (which you wouldnt want in a 12gal), and SPS corals.
look at my link in my sig. i got a real mix of corals goin on.
light wise, i actually think thats a real good choice for a 12 gal.

yeah its an aquapod.. i like the appearance of the rounded front alot..
I just dont know what I want this tank to look like in the end.I don't know what kind of corals I want in there. I don't want to put some aggressive fast grower in there in the center and have something awesome come along that I can't add because I didn't save the right space for it..

then you sell your other coral, and use that money to upgrade.
start with easy corals.
as you experience mounts, and yer tank matures, its makes more sense to buy the $50 a polyp LPS after you know for a fact that the less, striking corals have survived.
my reef tank is like musical chairs w/ corals.
ive stopped adding and taking for now, to inspire a lil growth

but I guess I am just envisioning these corals covering my rock and me being unable to remove them without making a big mess..
Should I be buying corals on larger rocks right now so they don't make a home on my existing rock? I think I put too much rock in the tank to begin with, unfortunately

puttin too much rock in the tank is probably the best possible thing you could have DONE!

rock + flow = good reef mojo.
now, being that were have a 6 gallon dif. between our tanks, id suggest buying SMALLER colonies or FRAGS, i did this to maximize diversity.
if you just want a handfull of a few specific corals, then yea, buy bigger colonies.
as far as these things go, they're cool. if you dont want them stealing prime real-estate, just isolate them. keep the colony on the sand bed, away from your rock work.
but being that they are a living oranism, id bet you ten bucks you bond with it, and become attached

well, its hard to move stuff around and clean the glass, etc.. in such a small tank with so much rock.. i put 21 lbs in there in a 12g (well you really get like 8g of room because the filter bins in the aquapod take up space). I have taken probably 6 lbs. out now though..
I stuck the pipe organs off to the side in a darker, lower flow area.. I guess they will start becoming pale if they aren't getting what they need? I am not sure how to tell their health..

I've pulled a lot of rock from my tank, too. Rock is a great thing, until it impedes flow...then it can be problematic.
Hard to say from those pictures but i would question wether its pipe organ also, pipe organ forms a hard calcium skeleton of tubes that the polyps retract into, in the pictures you posted there doesnt appear to be any skeleton, instead the mat associated with pachyclavularia (star polyps) around the base, I would guess that it is still a pachyclavularia, just not gsp variety you thought
