these are Green Star Polyps, right?

whoa.

it is IMO, but i never seen the center structure the same color...

it looks like the pipe organ corals to me, just that maybe it is young and the "pipes" haven't grown very long.. time will tell i suppose.. unless it dies :)

Wayne, that looks like pachyclavularia (GSP) but I cant say enough how difficult (and often innacurate) trying to ID a mystery coral from just a picture is. While it most likely is star polyp another possibility for both your colony and the original post by trancefusion would be an encrusting briarium, which is often mistaken for pachyclavularia. There are two major species of briarium in the aquarium hobby, B. asbestinum which will encrust and usually eventually grow single branches rising from the base (its often called corcky sea finger in the hobby), or B. Strechei which also encrusts and looks similar to GSP but can typically be identified by a more brown to grey mat

There are different types and variations of star polyps, which sprout from a sort of rubbery purple enrusting mat. The centers are often (but not always) a contrasting color from the tentacles.

Pipe organ (tubipora) forms from a dark red calcium-based and some-what fragile 'skeleton'.

does anyone know why my rock has that green tint to it? A couple of my rocks experienced severe coralline die-off during the cycle where the rock turned almost totally white, and now both have that green algae tint to them..

Anything I need to do about the green?

Yep, its briarium. I have tons of that stuff in my 75 and IMO it grows at a much faster clip than GSP, which I also have a few groups of. Very easy care, it is easily satisfied by even PC lighting; all I have is 4x65W on my tank.
