As the title states, I am thinking about getting out of planted tanks, just tired of the up keep. Now I do love the plants and I have rasied all of my plants from little stems and offspring. Also if i got out of my plants I would be switching the tank to a Fronts, so I would have to get rid of all of my fish. This is where it hurts due to i am attached most of the fish cause I have had them for over 2 years from juvies to adults. I just need some feedback.:help2:

Over the time that I have been keeping fish my likes, and goals have changed several times. First for me it was just Betta Splendens, and I had a bowl or small aquarium for each and every one. Then I started keeping community tanks until someone gave me a couple of cichlids. Then I setup a bunch of tanks for cichlids, and now I'm starting to like planted tanks, and am slowly changing over to planted community tanks. Who knows next year I might do a brackish tank or f.o.w.l.r. As long as you are happy, and the hobby is still interesting, and enjoyable it's all good.

Go non CO2, or go above the water, rift fish are okay with plants floating or emergent:

lol i meant to give you a reason to stay :D

switch to low tech plants if you want less upkeep. get anubias, java fern/moss, crypts etc. with a low wattage cfl fixture. no ferts, no co2. just healthy plants :)

hope that was a good enough reason

Just stick with the slow growing plants as mentioned and stay away from fast growing stem plants that require frequent pruning. Make a Crypt tank along with Java Fern and/or Anubias. Those are some of the best looking tanks, IMO.
