Irrigation ditches..many of the bettas simply follow the flow of water.(it's not like they are strong swimmers)

Hmmm...plenty of elbow room in an irrigation ditch. Its like a small slowflowing river. A far cry from a cup.

I wouldn't know, I try to avoid sleeping in ditches. :grinyes:

It seems people just keep coming up with new, more asinine ways to try and keep bettas in the tiniest frickin space possible... And then to top it off they try and justify that what they are doing is not about profit or greed at all, oh no, the fish live in spaces that small in the wild *rolls eyes*

so let me see then, Just because the males are soooo agressive, and have to be seperated, the pet stores sell them on the microscopic betta bowls... Then, because they are sold / kept in the stores in these betta bowls, people think that that is all the space they need? Really?!? thats totally rediculous...

You can't blame the customers for being seemingly informed of that way. If they are willing to research before buying a fish, that would be much appreciated.:)

If you think that Bettas are kept in poor conditions, you should see how they are shipped and kept at wholesellers. Very tiny bags with about an inch of water. When I saw that, it made me rethink keeping bettas, but I still do.
