This is completely outrageous!!!!

A pond needs the same sort of maintainance an aquarium does (just on a larger scale). And unless you only keep one goldfish in there, you end up with the same problem: more goldfish than you can handle. There's no reliable way to sex young goldfish, and happy pond goldies breed, and breed, and breed...

Keeping the fish on the 55 gallon tank is probably the best solution for now, unless the OP wants a pond for other reasons.

It could. At the minimum, you have increased your bio load.

Have you ever seen 1.5 inch goldfish poo?? They can roll out a 3" stream with no problem (I "rescued" 2 from my last school, the Biology teacher had kept them in a 10g all year, water was about 2" at end of year). Needless to say, they were already stunted, but I put them in my 29g. Major cleaning. They died, I guess from the stunting.

I would first ask around, maybe somebody will be willing to set up a 10 gallon for their kids or something before you put the poor guy down. I also think it shouldnt be allowed at all for carnivals to make money like that. I tend to win every year and end up giving them to people that dont win =X But i am over that stand, i try for the lizards instead! lol You cant put a 10-20 gallon at the bottom of your 55 gallon tank stand?

so, if you don't think carnivals should be "allowed" to make money that way, why do you play every year? and give them your money every year? whether or not you keep the fish, the carnival owners are still being rewarded for having their little goldfish toss game, and so it will never stop. if you, instead, told your friends and neighbors about the situation, and got them involved in "not wanting it to be allowed for carnivals to make money like that" and you and your friends and family made it very clear to the carnival management that you were going to be boycotting the carnival until the goldfish game was gone and their cruel money-making scheme ended, then maybe you would see some results one day.

p.s. - do you think all those lizards have better lives than the goldfish?
