I just want to know if what im going to be doing is the right way of doing it. If you find anything wrong with what ive said im going to do or there is something better then tell me.

Im going to use a 10 gallon aquarium with potting soil without perlite or vermiculite,a dish big enough for the salamander to soak in, few pices of driftwood and a half log cave thing for the salamander to hide in,a screen top, feed it crickets, nightcrawlers, minnows occasionally, change the substrate once every 2 months and spot clean it every day, change the water when soiled and changed out with declorinated tap water. also im wondering wether to add a light or not so tell me if its a good idea. im going to get it in a larval form at a bait shop most likely since they r only $2 and i will have just a bare tank with a power filter and ill feed it the same things as adults. anything wrong or anything else i should include? Thank you for taking the time to read through this and helping me out i appriciate it greatly ;).

Your setup doesn't sound bad but I would avoid potting soil and use coco bark such as Eco Earth or Bed-a-Beast. You could use a light that that doesn't put off any heat but your salamander probably won't like it. These guys are from the Mole Salamander family and they spend 99% of their lives underground so I don't think it's necessary. As an adult I would keep it in a larger tank like a 20 gallon long. I think raising a baby in a 10 gallon will be fine though.

ive watched all of those videos on caring for tiger salamanders and all that stuff :D i did alot of reasearch on these guys this time. so the substrate you mentioned...you can just buy those in pet stores right? and how much are they anyway?

That's great that you did lots of research first!

Eco Earth is cheap, about $3 for a brick. You stick the brick in a bucket of water and it expands into a soil substrate. I use it for my Pyxie Frog and Crested Geckos. It holds moisture very well, even better than potting soil.

i think im gunna try to find it at my lps cuz it would be $15 for me with shipping..so is there anything else i need to know about tiger salamanders?

there is now a new update. im going to be converting a 20 gallon long fish tank into a salamander tank. about how many salamanders can i put into the aquarium?

Tigers get pretty big so I'd say a pair at the most.

ok thank you for straiting that out :D i didnt want to over stock it :D alaso when i move my oscar into a 75 gallon aquarium im thinking i might move the tigers into teh 30 how many could i fit into it then?

I would say one salamander per 10 gallons of tank so 3 at the most.

Sounds cool! I have a little eastern tiger salamander (ID'd on here :D) that was given to me. He's a cute little thing but I rarely see him LOL

Good luck! Oh, and mine LOVES his log cave. He's always lounging under it with a piece of moss as a pillow :hearts:
