Too close for missles, switching to guns

Ok, so, I have a yeast colony. I use champagne yeast, it stays at the bottom of the bottle. About every 10-14 days, I open the bottle, pour off a bunch of liquid, then add 2 more cups of sugar and more water. I just reuse the yeast.

That's the feeding part. Some people don't do this.

As far as diffusion, it is better through the eheim than the ladder. Only a couple of days and I can tell a big difference.

Thanks for clearing that up. Instead of starting a new batch, you just re-use the yeast in the bottom of the bottle. Any advantages?

I'll try diffusing trough the eheim.. sounds nice. My only worry is the co2 bubbles not going trough the filter cone because of dead leafs stuck to it.

Advantage of reusing yeast: most cost effective. A packet of yeast at my local home brew store is about $2. I use less packets.

It's also not so much the cost, but the headache. The local home brew store is a little out of my way, so I'd prefer to go there as little as possible.

I'm running my co2 line through the filter cone, then, on the other side, it's plugged into a small airstone. Here, it sticks straight up into the intake of my eheim. All the bubbles get sucked in and through. Works great.

Are there any disadvantages associated with running your CO2 to the intake instead of the return?

yes, you run the risk of possibly air locking the impeller with too much gasses, it all depends on how fast you're adding co2, and the dissolved gasses in your tank to start with.

I have a ? too. I get the "feeding". But I thought you could run your co2 output into your canister or HOB intake? I thought it was better? I have a wooden airstone under my HOB intakes on both my tanks? It isnt as effective?

k do you think its better in my situation to run the wooden airstone under the HOB intake to get sucked in or in the corner away from everything in the corner to get dispersed un-bothered?

I do run my co2 into my cannister intake. It's not just under it, it's in it. And, it is better.

I am just curious about your setup.....I am running a 2234. Where have you tapped into the intake pipe/hose?

some people cut a hole in the strainer just big enough for air hose to go in

I have my diffuser right under my strainer so the tiny bubbles go straight into the filter to get mixed up even better
